Outstanding Public Service Award
Department of Elementary & Special Education, MTSU
The annual presentation of the Foundation Awards recognizes, celebrates and rewards university faculty members for their accomplishments inside and outside the classroom.
Dr. Terri Tharp received the Outstanding Public Service Award Thursday, August 18th at the Fall 2016 MTSU Faculty Meeting inside Tucker Theatre. This meeting serves as a kick off for the university 2016-17 academic year.
Dr. Tharp began her teaching career as an elementary school teacher in Houston and believes the key to student success at all levels is active student engagement. She incorporates this philosophy by designating all of her undergraduate courses as Experiential Learning (EXL) sections. She believes strongly in service to our local communities and works with community organizations and public schools to provide real–world experiences for teacher candidates. In 2011, she was named as the Family Literacy Volunteer of the Year by Read to Succeed.
