A recap of the meeting held April 21, 2021
Superintendent Jason Enix updated the Board on the Reorganization Plan. The plan has allowed for a data-driven focus on staffing needs and is part of the district’s commitment to student learning and fiscal responsibility laid out in the Strategic Plan. For the 2021-2022 school year, this will mean some staffing assignment changes in our elementary grades.
Mr. Enix discussed with the Board that this flexibility allows the district to avoid hiring additional staff. An additional staff member costs approximately $80,000 on average for salary and benefits, or $400,000 during a five-year forecast period. You can view his report for additional details.
Summer Jump Start
Already more than 100 students have signed up for the Summer Jump Start program. The program is part of the district Learning Recovery Plan to help our students make a successful start to the 2021-2022 school year. The program is free. K-8 students across the district are invited to participate for help with English Language Arts and Math. The Jump Start will take place July 19-August 5. Registration has been expanded through April 26 so more families can take part. Sign up now!
Wellness & Community Outreach
Thank You, Reading Fire Department
Reading Fire Chief Todd Owens was presented with a plaque by the Board, in appreciation for the department’s support of the district. The Reading Fire Department coordinated the recent school staff vaccine clinic, and that partnership helped minimize disruptions for staff and our families.
We will be partnering again to offer vaccinations to our 16-18-year-old students. Thank you again to Chief Owens and the entire Reading Fire Department!
