The Teenage Years

The teen years can be very exciting , but they can also be quite difficult depending on what you have to cope with. Stress is a normal part of everyday life, but with all the changes teens go through, stress can build up.

Please take what you like from these resources and leave the rest. If something here is helpful, please use it.


Your attitude matters. I control my emotions; they don’t control me.

Apps are another way to be kind to your mind. Below are some apps that may help you.



A book on the topic you are trying to cope with can help. Beliefs- what you think matters. Challenge your thoughts about the topic that stresses you.: Be positive! Books can be healing! Find a book you love that helps you drift away or learn new things.

One of my all time favorite books is Mans Search for Meaning


Just breathe

Caring and compassion make a difference. Self care even more so.

Helping others helps you to focus on others, not on your own problems. Volunteer with other students with special needs. You will not only feel better , you will make a difference.

Care about yourself. Write a positive message to yourself on a mirror with an erasable marker. Write a positive note to yourself on a card and carry it around in your wallet.

You may think you can't but YOU CAN. You are in charge of your life. What path you take is up to you.

Decide to reach out

Ask for help . Reaching out is a strength not a weakness.Your School Counsellors are there to help.

Express your feelings .

Feelings are neither write or wrong. It’s what you do with them that matters. If you hurt yourself or someone else then that needs to be changed. So write down your feelings.Tell someone how you feel. Draw your feelings in an Art journal. Find some great ideas for Art Journaling on pinterest.


Exercise is always helpful and makes you feel and think better. Start small ,but just do it! You can ! Find an app that helps you exercise.

Kindness is always a good thing .

Do a Random Acts of Kindness for someone else today.

Let go of past hurts

Do it for you. Holding on to resentments ends up hurting you the most. Practice saying this to yourself. I will let go and live my life to the fullest no matter what anyone says or does to me.

After any betrayal it is common for you to feel hurt and it is ok to feel those feelings. You want to protect yourself from hurting again. Be kind to yourself. Free yourself to trust and accept others as they are not as you wish them to be. Don't let anger define who you are.

Talk it out with someone or write it out in a journal. Keep a visual journal. That in itself can be a healing process. You can let it all out there.

Let it go ... one day at a time

Listen to music

Find your favourite or create your own. Neuroscientists say this one reduces anxiety.

Toxic stress is not good for you. Get rid of it. Train your brain to go to a safe place. Your safe place might be a beach, a room that you like to go to. Your space is unique. Find one that works for you.

Trust: that your negative feelings will not last forever. Develop positive connections with people that heal and help not hurt and harm.

to get your mind off all the serious stuff. There are lots of funny shows and movies. If that doesn't work hang around a friend you know makes you laugh.

Write a letter to your problem

Whatever is bothering you write a letter about it and actually give yourself advice. Treat it like you are writing how to solve the problem to your best friend.

Share the letter if you like ,but if you don't that is ok too!
