Eagle Crest Family Newsletter
September 9, 2021
Principal Message
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
I hope everyone had a great long weekend and an extra opportunity to relax and refresh over the holiday break. My staff and I hit the ground running on Tuesday, so happy to see our favorite students and get back to the business of teaching and learning!
One thing we know for sure is the power of strong family and community partnerships. The newsletter this week showcases some new opportunities for families to get involved in our school. I will be co-hosting a “Coffee with the Principal” event with our amazing PTO on Thursday morning, 9/16 just after school drop off. Also, please be sure to join us for the family picnic scheduled for Friday, September 17th. It will be such a great chance to get to know other families in our community and to connect with each other in a social setting. I look forward to seeing you there!
I hope you have a great weekend!
Warmly,
Amanda

Dean of Students Update
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
As we keep getting further into the school year, we will continue to settle into routines and start to add back some of the extracurriculars and opportunities we've missed since COVID. Two of those opportunities- visits to the Library and the Garage space will start next week!
This year we are going to be utilizing student time in the Library and the Garage to help facilitate more weekly collaboration time for classroom teachers. Teachers will gain time to focus on student data and instruction that is built into the school day once a week. We are excited for these meetings, but it will also change how Library visits and book check-out happens at Eagle Crest.
Students will be visiting Mrs. Beckett in the Library or Mrs. Schwirtz in the Garage for two consecutive weeks. While visiting the Library, students will learn how to use the library, check out books, explore different genres, and develop researching skills. When they visit the Garage, students will develop their leadership skills through hands-on projects focused on design thinking and technology.
Teachers will keep you updated to whether or not your child has Library or Garage lessons for the week, but here is the schedule to start the year:
September 13th - September 24th:
Library: Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade
Garage: 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, 5th Grade
September 27th - October 8th:
Library: 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, 5th Grade
Garage: Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade
**Even if your child is visiting Mrs. Schwirtz in the Garage for two weeks, they will still be able to trade out their library books during "Open Library" time in the mornings or with special check-out sessions with Mrs. Beckett.
We look forward to all of the books students will read and the amazing things they will get to create in the Garage with this new schedule!
All the best,
Lindsey Cheney
Dean of Students

Gifted and Talented Nominations
Each year St. Vrain Valley School District completes a process to identify students in grades K-12 who demonstrate exceptional ability or performance in one or more academic or talent areas and may therefore qualify for Gifted and Talented educational services. These students usually perform at least two years above grade level in their strength area(s) and require additional academic challenges in order to support their continued educational growth and progress. In addition, they usually demonstrate characteristics of unique creativity and high motivation in their strength areas. Learn more about this process and complete the nomination form here.
Specials Schedule - Red, Gold, Purple
Our Music, PE, and Art classes are on a 3 day rotation. Each day we have school is either a Red, Gold, or Purple day. These colors are shared on our school lunch menu to help families plan ahead for necessary supplies like sneakers for PE.
