February Golf Updates:
January was a wonderful month at Alvamar. Many of you took the opportunity to play on those abnormally warm days that we enjoyed. We all are hoping for more of those types of days in February. If you are wishing to pick up a copy of the 2015 golf calendar, we have them available in the Member’s Golf Shop. Also, you may contact me via email and I would be glad to forward it to you. There is an event that is quickly approaching on March 11th. There will be a meeting from 6:30 to 7:30 in the Bob Billings Banquet Room to introduce who is on the Golf Committee, the Captains of the “Cup” teams, passing out the golf calendar, talk about the men’s league, and ladies new to the club will have an introduction to the ACCWGA, plus much more.
Procedures and policies that I wish for everyone to remember for 2015: Please call ahead to make tee times or go to Alvamar.com to make them online, remember to check in before playing especially if you are wanting to start on the back 9. The back tee on the driving range is for the KU Golf Team and lessons only (I know it is a good place to practice but access is only for KU players and their guest), Also that we will continue the practice of driving only in the fairways for 2015.
Lastly we will be having a second installment of our golf wellness with Cindy Johnson and Therapy Works. The date has yet to be determined. The first installment provided great information on exercise and stretching specific to golf but also wonderful for one's overall well-being.

February:
Alvamar members there several new programs that you should share with your golfing friends that play at Alvamar's Championship Course. Of course if you can get them to join the club then they can have two great courses to play and the best practice facilities in the region. With a vision for the future of Alvamar now is a great time to get in and be a part of the great legacy that belongs to Alvamar.
However if your golfing friends are able to only take advantage of the Championship Course, 2015 has some exciting new offerings. We have renamed our patron card to be known as the Preferred Player card. For a $75 annual fee the golfer receives discounts on golf, range and merchandise purchases. For your friends with young golfers the Junior Annual Pass is an extremely great value at $100. For the annual fee the junior can walk and play unlimited golf with very few restrictions. That's right $100 for the year.
The Championship Course will also host tournaments and start up a Wednesday morning Senior League in April. The golfers will be able to play with friends, make friends and compete in fun events each week. The Senior League has a season fee of $30 and the golfers pay the normal senior fee each week. Our slate of tournaments will include; May 16 three person scramble, July 11 two person shamble, August 8 two person better ball and on October 10-11 the Alvamar Open an individual championship.
All of these programs and tournaments will be viewable on our website, flyers at the course and eblasts to remind you. Of course Alvamar members are welcome to participate in the senior league and tournaments. Let your friends know, enjoy some of the new events yourself and get ready for a great year of golf here at Alvamar.
ACCWGA Updates: February
Here’s hoping everyone’s 2015 is starting out marvelously! With the weather so mild these last few days, I’ve been thinking about spring cleaning now so I can get out on the course just as soon as the weather warms up. The ACCWGA board has been very busy setting schedules and arranging details so our 2015 year will run smoothly starting in April. Circle April 4th on your calendar as our Spring Banquet is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on that date!
We would like to again remind you that your ACCWGA has attached the 2015 ACC Women's Golf Association Membership Registration for all lady Alvamar 18-hole and 9-hole members to fill out (new and existing). We play every Tuesday from April through September. These forms are also available in the ladies locker room if you would rather pick it up there. Just fill it out and send it in – the instructions are on the registration form.
I hope to see you on the driving range or at the indoor facility!
Bobette Puderbaugh
ACCWGA Vice President

February: Tee to green
As February unfolds and golf season approaches, the maintenance department has been busy throughout the winter with the normal duties that are performed annually. The majority of the deceased trees have been removed at this time. There are still a few that are too large for what we can handle, but they should be on the way out shortly. Tee markers and other accessories have been refreshed and are ready for the upcoming season. Repair and maintenance of our equipment fleet is ongoing and on schedule as warmer days near.
A couple of other projects are underway that you may notice as you play your next round at ACC. We are targeting a few areas on the course that have been considered no maintenance areas with native trees and underbrush as predominate landscape. In an effort to give the course a more refined look, these areas are in the process of being cleaned out and will be replaced with a new turf line and mulched areas underneath the remaining, larger trees. It is the hope that this will provide us with an overall better appearance, and if that is the case more areas will follow.
We also are in the process of reclaiming the lower tee complex on #18. Brush and trees have been removed to open up the tee chute and allow for more sunlight to get to the area. Reshaping and leveling of the tees will follow and hopefully more usable square footage will be ready as spring and summer arrive.
Lastly, the landscape behind #2 green is getting a facelift. The large, out of play bunker that was in the backdrop is gone, as well as the overgrown shrubs and bushes. A mixture of grass and wildflowers will give a fresh, lower maintenance look for the future. It is our hope that this and the other improvements will be well received and will add aesthetic value to your club.

Many of you may not know, long time employee and Alvabar Manager, Travis Walsh, is leaving Alvamar. He is headed for bigger and better things in Chicago. Travis will be missed by staff and members alike. I personally would like to thank Travis for all of his hard work during his employment at Alvamar. I’ve had the privilege of working with Travis for two years and he has made my job at the club so much easier and enjoyable. Good luck Trav in all you do.
See you at the club,
