Mayfield High School Weekly Update

October 9, 2022

Testing Day - October 12th

On Wednesday, October 12, our counselors will coordinate Mayfield's annual testing day. Freshmen will take the PSAT 8/9, sophomores will take the PSAT, and juniors will take the PSAT/NMSQT.

Seniors will not report to school on October 12. Seniors may use the day to visit college campuses or work on their college applications. Juniors not electing to take the PSAT/NMSQT are to get caught up on their assignments.

These exams are an essential part of the counseling curriculum. Counselors use the results to help students focus on their aptitudes as well as their career and college interests. Additionally, the PSAT 8/9 and PSAT 10 results will provide important data that will help students best prepare for the SAT test, which is the next level of tests in the college admission process. The PSAT/NMSQT is a practice test for the SAT, an entrance exam that many colleges utilize to assess a potential student’s academic strengths and readiness for college. This test also has a scholarship component through the National Merit Scholarship Program. Juniors who score in the highest percentiles may be given the opportunity to advance in this scholarship program. The results from the test can be used to determine if students are currently on track for college-level coursework and offer an interest inventory that gives students some additional tools to use when determining a future career.

Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors should be in their assigned classrooms and ready to begin testing at 7:45 AM (We will not run a late start schedule this day). We will dismiss students at 11:30AM. Excel TECC programs will run as normal. Excel TECC juniors taking the PSAT/NMSQT are excused from theirTECC classes.

School transportation will run as normal in the morning. PM transportation will arrive by 11:45 AM and will leave by noon. The cafeteria will serve breakfast and lunch on testing day.

Senior Picture Day

Senior Picture Day: Seniors will have their pictures taken in the auditorium during English classes on Thursday, October 13th.

If a senior does not have an English class at Mayfield, they may stop by the auditorium during a free period to have their picture taken.

All students must have their portrait taken by MK Photography in order to be included in the Yearbook. We do not accept submissions from other photographers.

This is the only day for seniors to be photographed for free at the high school- there will be no make-up day. It will be the responsibility of seniors who do not have their pictures taken at school to contact MK Photography and set-up an appointment at their studio in Mentor, and families will be responsible for paying a sitting fee for this session.

Students should dress in attire that will look professional in the yearbook.
