So I think my child is GIfted and Talented..now what?
We are excited to invite you to a parent help session that is focused on understanding what it means to be Gifted and Talented or GT. If you have been thinking about having your child tested or re-tested for GT this year, or you just have questions about the Horizons program, this session is for you. On October 2nd from 6:00-7:00 PM, we will be sharing about the classification, the test and the implications for you and your child. Come join us!
Gifted and Talented Testing
For parents interested in having their child screened for the Horizons (Gifted and Talented) program, the referral period for spring GT testing begins on Monday, October 1, and ends on November 30 at 4:00 PM. “Parent Survey and Permission to Test forms” will be available at the front office, or by contacting Kim Graley or Michelle Erickson. Completed forms must be returned to Kim Graley by November 30 at 4:00 PM. Late forms will NOT be honored, no exceptions.
· Kindergarten students will be tested on their campuses during the school day in January 2019, and students in grades 1-5 will be tested on their campuses during the school day prior to Spring Break. Specific testing dates will be provided to parents once the schedule has been created.
· Kindergarten students who qualify for HORIZONS will receive services beginning in March 2019 with parent permission.
· Students in grades 1-5 who qualify for HORIZONS will receive services at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year with parent permission.
Our Watch Dog Dads Program
Our ever popular Watch Dog Program is back, and will begin on Wednesday, October 10. To sign up for a volunteer date, please click on the link below. Please make note of the following important reminders:
· If you have not yet been a Hamilton Elementary Watch Dog Dad, you will need to attend one of the two training dates. The sign up for the training dates is embedded within the main sign-up at the top of the page.
o October 3 (7:30 am or 5:30 pm)
o January 9 (7:30 am or 5:30 pm)
· As a First-Timer Watch Dog Dad, you are required to be trained PRIOR to your volunteer date. If this does not happen, you will be asked to reschedule your date or be removed from your date altogether.
· You are NOT required to attend another training if you have been trained at Hamilton Elementary for our Watch Dog program.
· In order to allow as many dads as possible the opportunity to volunteer, only one volunteer date is allowed for the year. If spots are still available later in the spring semester, then information will be sent out that a second volunteer date is being opened for volunteers.

Small Group Counseling
As part of the counseling program at Hamilton Elementary, I will be offering small group counseling sessions for grades 2nd-5th in the fall semester and grades 1st-5th in the spring semester. The purpose of small group meetings is to help children be successful in both school and everyday life. Possible Topics may include:
· Friendship-making friends and getting along with others
· Divorce- issues dealing with a recent divorce or separation
· Grief-dealing with a death/loss in family
· Anxiety- learning how to manage stress and gain coping skills for success
· Self-Confidence- build self-esteem for those shy or withdrawn students
· Anger Management-Identifying and coping with anger
Groups will meet for 4-5 sessions during a non-instructional time. Groups will be made up of approximately three to six students from their grade level. Enough group members need to participate in order for the group to be formed.
If you would like for your child to participate in a counseling group, or would like more information, please contact Michelle Erickson, Counselor, at michelle.erickson@cfisd.net or 281-320-7055.
