Transportation Services
The Tuscaloosa City Schools transports nearly 7,000 of our 10,000 students. We have incredible bus drivers who are caring and safe.
Unfortunately, buses haven't run as smoothly as we would all like, as some of you now know. The main reasons have been a shortage of drivers which has resulted in our TCS drivers making multiple runs and timing issues related to our routing program. We are also adding students to routes who are registering for transportation at this time. Resolving this issue has been a key focus for our system in the past few days. Here's what we are doing about it:
Monday, we adjusted routes and will provide students who ride the bus with a new card with their specific route information on it. This information will be sent home from school with your child today. Officials will the transportation department will have to make adjustments to bus routes for the next two weeks. However, the transportation department will also be better situated this week to begin making calls when a bus is late to pick up or drop off students.
If you need transportation and have not yet registered, please contact your child's school.
If you have questions regarding your child's bus, you can do the following:
- Email our transportation director, Ron Schappacher, at rschappacher@tusc.k12.al.us or Rodney Jorges, Transportation Coordinator, at rjorges@tusc.k12.al.us or Yelda McCool, Transportation Dispatcher/Route Specialist, at ymccool@tusc.k12.al.us
- Call the Tuscaloosa City Schools Central Office at (205) 759-3700
- Call the Transportation office at (205) 247-2400
- Send a message using Let's Talk at www.tuscaloosacityschools.com/letstalk. We are able to receive and respond to all messages within 24 hours.
Thank you for your patience and the feedback you have provided so far. It has been helpful to have as we make adjustments to the routes. If you have any additional feedback, please, share it at www.tuscaloosacityschools.com/letstalk
School Traffic
Thanks for your patience with the large volume of traffic in the opening days of school. As we progress into this week and next week, we anticipate this to improve. However, we are still experiencing traffic issues at some schools. TCS is working with the Tuscaloosa Police Department to make adjustments and improve the traffic. We appreciate your patience and attention to the safety of our children.
Opening of the 2018-2019 School Year has been AMAZING!
We have wrapped up our first few days of the school year and Superintendent Dr. Mike Daria has made the rounds. "I can tell you that I have visited all of our buildings and seen the incredible work teachers and staff are doing," he said. "We are so excited to have your children in our schools for what we know is going to be an incredible school year! "
