Cheltenham Artists Garner Honors at PSEA “Touch the Future” Exhibition

Congratulations to the 17 CHS art students whose work is being featured in the juried “PSEA Touch the Future” exhibition at Arcadia University. CHS senior Clement Thomas won third place in the “Best in Show” category with his “American Dream” (left) and senior Rebecca Banner won the Dr. Selma Burke Sculpture Award for her “Tea Set.” The exhibition, which is on display in the University Commons Art Gallery & Great Room Lobby through March 28, features work from students from more than 25 Bucks and Montgomery county public high schools. Go Time for High School Robotics Team

The Cheltenham High School Robotics team Simple Machines (FRC No. 423) has spent the past six weeks gearing up for its initial two FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) qualifying events of the season: March 9-10 at Westtown School in West Chester, Pa., and March 23-24 at Seneca High School in Tabernacle, N.J. Student-Run Eastern Standard Theatre Presents ..."Life in This Form"

The student-run theater organization Eastern Standard Theatre presents "Life in This Form," written by CHS senior Jay Mancini. The play follows a man with an identity crisis who gets sent to ... well you will need to attend to find out. The production has two shows, March 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. at the CHS Little Theatre. Tickets are available at the door for $3 or two for $5.

CHS Senior Lionel Smoler Schatz Named Candidate for United States Presidential Scholars Program

Cheltenham senior Lionel Smoler Schatz has been named one of more than 4,500 candidates nationwide selected as a candidate for the 2019 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Candidates were selected from nearly 3.6 million students expected to graduate from high schools in the United States in 2019. Read more>

PTO-Sponsored Girls In Science Fair Returns To Glenside Elementary

The much-anticipated Girls In Science Fair returned to Glenside this week, and K-4 students experienced hands-on science by rotating through six different stations staffed by female science students from within the District and neighboring schools. Cheltenham fair participants included the Cedarbrook Environmental club with an energy carnival display and the newly formed CHS Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) club, who showed students how to create lava lamps. Science stations from other schools included CO2 rockets and “magic milk” from Chestnut Hill Academy, optical illusions from Germantown Academy, and light, color and robots from Springfield High School.

CBKTheatre Returns Home to Stage Monty Python's "Spamalot"

“Lovingly ripped off” from the classic 1975 comedy film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” Monty Python’s “Spamalot” tells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table in a whole new way. Featuring gallant (and not so gallant) knights, showgirls, showboys, cows, killer rabbits and French people, this irreverent spoof includes hilarious parodies of Broadway theatre along the way. Performances are Thursday through Saturday, March 21-23 at 7:30 p.m.at Cedarbrook Middle School. All seating is general admission. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Cheltenham.org/spamalot.

Cheltenham Orchestra Players Compete at PMEA Festival

Junior Naomi Aires became the first Cheltenham cellist to qualify for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) All-State Festival since 2008 when she re-auditioned recently at the PMEA Region VI Orchestra Festival. Junior violinist Ifenna Amaefuna also competed at the festival. Aires and Amaefuna rehearsed diligently for two days at the festival, which culminated in a wonderful concert. The PMEA All-State Festival is in Pittsburgh, Pa., from April 3-6.

Calendar Reminders

Monthly early dismissals have been moved from the third Wednesday of the month to the second Wednesday of the month. The District has early dismissal on Wednesday, March 13. Schools will dismiss at the following times:


  • Cheltenham High School | 1:30 p.m.
  • Cedarbrook Middle School | 2:10 p.m.
  • Elkins Park School | 2:40 p.m.
  • K – 4 Schools | 2:45 p.m.


School will be closed Monday, April 15 – Friday, April 19 for Spring Break.

Kindergarten Registration and Readiness Screening for the Class of 2032

Kindergarten registration and readiness screening for the 2019-20 school year will take place Monday, May 6 through Thursday, May 23 from 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Administration Building (2000 Ashbourne Rd., Elkins Park). Due to professional development day, registration will not take place on Tuesday, May 21. Prior to making an appointment, parents/guardians must submit an application via the district's registration portal. Once registration paperwork is submitted, a link will appear to schedule an appointment to bring in the required paperwork and for the child to participate in the readiness screening. Children must be a Cheltenham Township resident to register, and be 5-years-old on or before September 1, 2019, to attend kindergarten this coming school year. For questions or assistance scheduling an appointment, contact CSD Registrar Kate Shevlin at 215-881-6322.

Summer Voyage “Taking Flight” at Cheltenham Elementary

Cheltenham School District will sponsor the 2019 Summer Voyage program “Taking Flight,” where rising second through sixth graders can explore the history of flight, its social and cultural impact on societies across the globe, engineering and design of various aircraft, and design of their own flight innovations. Pennsylvania-certified teachers will lead students through a project-based learning model as they exercise their curiosity, creativity, collaboration and critical-thinking skills in various activities.
