Bolton Hill Nursery Weekly Update

Message from the Executive Director
We've just heard from our family in self-quarantine: their little friend who might've been virus-positive came back from the test as NEGATIVE for presence of virus. PHEW!
Look for a longer message about our plans for the coming week by early Monday.
Whether at home or at school, we are all traveling uncharted territory right now. On behalf of our whole staff, thanks so much for your support this week - and always.
Please stay healthy, all.
Warm regards -
Beth

Parakeets
The Parakeets are beginning their exploration of the five senses! We began by opening our ears to the sounds around us, playing a listening bingo game where players fill their boards when they hear the recorded sounds of birds, dogs, cars, wind chimes and more. This proved a good place to start because it’s always worth remembering the importance of listening to our friends. The Parakeets moved on to a guessing game where they shook plastic eggs filled with small items and attempted to guess the contents. Some Parakeets impressed by telling the difference between the sounds of shaking rice and shaking corn! Moving from the ears to the hands, the Parakeets took turns reaching into Ms. Kristen’s Touch Box to describe and guess at the contents. The Parakeets showed off some amazing vocabulary describing the objects (pompoms, sea shells, toy dinosaurs, etc.) with words like silky, prickly, tickly, and rough. On Friday, the Parakeets tried writing and drawing in shaving cream on the table, just for the sheer tactile fun of it. Although our parting this Friday is not as happy as most, rest assured that Ms. Kristen and Mr. Brad will be in touch to make sure our friends get as much Parakeet fun as possible in this trying time. We look forward to reuniting in good health and good fun!
Pericos
We finished up our theme on parts of the body and the mouth this week and boy, did we have fun! We began our week focusing on the inside of our bodies, making our skeleton, including all our bones (huesos) and feeling them in our bodies. We even talked about how we have soft bones, cartilage (cartilago) and hard bones in our body. To cover our bones we need skin and muscles, so, we drew our body! so, we didn't talk about our scribbles, but this Wednesday we did it and it was fantastico! Everyone did a wonderful job writing their names. Finally, to say goodbye to our wonderful theme, we took turns looking in our classroom mirror and practiced brushing and flossing our own teeth! We had a special visitor come and spend the morning with us while we brushed and she read "The Princess in Black" by Dean and Shannon Hale. It was a great way to end such a fun and exciting theme!

“Every day, in a 100 small ways, our children ask, 'Do you hear me? Do you see me? Do I matter?' Their behavior often reflects our response.” ~ L.R. Knost
