"You don't stop running because you get get old because you stop running."

Hello Pillow Panther Staff!

I know we've been back for a week already, but I want to reiterate how excited I am about the spring semester! We have a lot or work to do, but together, we're going to make it happen. Remember that at the beginning of the year we talked about one of our goals being to get off the Level 2 list and to be a Level 3 or 4 school. This allows us to have more freedom and autonomy when it comes to what we do in our school and in our classrooms. Again, I know it's not all about the test, but it's a piece of the puzzle, and an important piece for our school. Thank you to the 3rd through 5th grade teachers, along with the specialists, for meeting to go over the MOY data and to come up with a plan of action. The spring semester is very stressful for 3rd through 5th grade teachers and students, and even though we will do as much as we can to not make this time stressful, it happens. These few STAAAR tests that we are preparing our students for represent our whole campus, and they are the only thing that TEA looks at. So, thank you for working hard to ensure that all of our Panthers will be successful.

Also, thank you for being so understanding during all of the construction that has been happening on campus. I know Kinder & PreK is ready for that library to be done so the banging will stop! Work has begun on the AC system that will mainly take place over the summer. Just a heads up that the parking area by the portables will be blocked off with cones tomorrow night and a crew will be drilling samples from the ground near the temporary library on Tuesday morning. The lot will be back to normal on Wednesday. Sorry for the inconvenience, but it's necessary in order to move forward on schedule. Just think, next year we will have a new AC system, library, playground, adult bathroom, etc, with no construction going on!

Lastly, that quote in the title is from the book I referenced at our PD day. It's about running, but I think if you flip it, it fits with teaching as well. "You don't stop teaching because you get get old because you stop teaching." I want to reiterate what I said last Monday. I hope you can take the time this semester to remember why you got into teaching in the first place. I'm sure most, if not all, of us got into teaching because we wanted to help kids be successful...however that might look. I know that's why I did. It's very easy to forget that when we get caught up in the "stuff" that comes with this job. Let's do whatever we can to try and get back to the excitement and joy we had when we first started teaching. Our students deserve that. You deserve that. You don't stop teaching, caring, etc. because you get get old because you stop teaching, caring, etc. Thanks for all that you do for our Panthers.
