ALL BARRY FAMILIES
Character Strong - Family Dares
I hope you all had a chance to participate in last week's family dare: Family Volunteer Day.
Please consider joining us in this week's family dare: No More Chores. We participated in this during first semester, but thought it would be a great time to bring it back. As we begin to experience more sunshine, rain, and warmer temperatures, we should all expect to see a rise in the need for yard work. Please use this family dare in your favor and ask your children to join in with us on this week's family dare!

Barry PTSA Meeting - Tuesday, 4/13 at 6 pm
Since the School Bond Package was successful in passing yesterday, we have received a request from the architects from Hollis and Miller to present their plans for the brand new middle school that will be built off of Platte Purchase. The intention is for the building to open in the fall of 2023. These plans have been developed with both DEC and Barry staff over the past 6 months. They met with our Principal's Advisory Team last week and are excited to visit with us on 4/13. We will be conducting a shortened version of our regular business meeting from 6-6:30 followed by the presentation and Q&A from HM from 6:30-8pm.
The meeting's purpose falls in the Consult area in the graphic below. It gives a good description of what to expect as a participant in this meeting.
Please complete this FORM to RSVP for attending on Tuesday, April 13th from 6-8pm. We will be limiting in person attendance to 40 parents, so please let us know if you are coming by NOON on Monday, April 12th at the latest. Limited pizza and drinks will be available for those that register.
We look forward to receiving your RSVP!

SOS - Signs of Suicide Program (Repeat)
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth ages 10-24 years old. As a part of our ongoing efforts to educate our students to recognize the symptoms of depression and the warning signs of suicide, and to teach them how to get help for themselves or a friend, we are participating in the SOS Signs of Suicide Prevention Program.
The SOS Program is used in thousands of schools throughout the country. This year marks our third year of participation at the high school and year two at the middle level. As a part of this educational program, we will watch a brief video clip and have a group discussion. Then at the end of class, students will fill out a form asking if they would like to speak to someone. Finally, students will receive a resource sheet outlining where to go to get further help.
This topic is very important, but can be difficult to discuss. If you would like for your student to opt out the SOS session, please fill out the form below by Monday, April 12. These sessions will occur across the district during the week of April 12.

All 8th grade students who cannot provide proof of having the Tdap and MCV being given will not be able to start the 2021-2022 school year. Students will NOT receive their schedules at back-to-school events and will NOT be able to start on the first day of school next year until proof of the vaccines being given is provided.
Please reach out to our school nurse with any questions (thomask@platteco.k12.mo.us).
