Weekly Update

Dear Families,

In light of the closure of all elementary and secondary schools from March 14-April 5, 2020 we wanted to share some important updates that impact our school site:

*Hot lunch orders for the two weeks after March break will be credited to parents' accounts. Cheques for the credits will be issued, but not until we know if there will be further closures that could cause more hot lunches to be cancelled. We thank you for your patience.

*Parent Council Meeting scheduled for April 2nd is postponed. We will let everyone know of the new date as soon as possible.

*The "Cheesecakery Bakery" fundraiser has been postponed. We hope to be able to run this fundraiser later in the spring.

*Girls Inc. After School Program will be postponed until after the school closures are over.

Please continue to read all communication sent from the Limestone District School Board, and check the LDSB website, for updates about the school closures. We look forward to seeing all of our students back in the building after these preventative measures are over.

We also want to share some of the positive news from our week. "Dress as Your Favourite Character Day" was a big success: many students and staff wore creative costumes, and shared their favourite book titles, authors and characters. We have so much school spirit! Thanks to Mme Creighton and Ms. Kivistik for organizing this fun event.

We hope that everyone enjoys some quality time with family and friends over the March Break, and that everyone stays healthy during the 2 week school closure. We look forward to seeing everyone again soon.

Mme Peart and Mrs. Davey

Sign up for School-Day: Permissions & Payments!

James R. Henderson Public School is excited to offer our families a new secure portal to complete permissions and payments online. With School-Day: Permissions & Payments, you will be able to complete permission forms and payments from any web browser using your SmartPhone, tablet, laptop or desktop.

Through this new online portal, you will be able to pay for items such as:

· Field trips

· Sporting events

· Student cards/athletic fees

· Hot lunch (where applicable)

The new easy-to-use portal will remove the risks associated with sending money to school with students, the frustration of lost or missing permission forms, and significantly reduce the amount of paper our school consumes.

You can sign up for a School-Day account at www.school-day.com and connect to your child’s events and activities.

With your support, we look forward to a successful implementation of this practical application!

Our April 2nd Parent Council Meeting has been postponed. We will let everyone know when a new date is chosen.

James R Henderson Parking Guide

Drop off and pick up times are very busy, and we want to ensure the safety of all of our students and their caregivers as they enter and exit the school. Please consult the Driving and Parking Guide below to see where there are safe, designated parking spaces that are all within a 3 minute walk to the school. The area directly in front of the school is a designated student drop off zone: you must remain in your vehicle and are permitted to stop for a maximum of 3 minutes. A reminder that parking is not permitted in

the bus loading zone on Henderson Blvd. or on the shoulder of Roosevelt Drive opposite the school, and that the City of Kingston will be enforcing this no-parking zone. Thank you for ensuring that you help to keep everyone safe by respecting our drop-off and parking guidelines. A reminder that supervision on the yard is from 8:55 until the bell rings at 9:15.
