Principal's Corner

Pine Street families,

It is hard to believe October and fall weather is already upon us. We have had a great start to our school year and have been busy diving into new learning after our beginning of the year assessments. Our WIN (What I Need) intervention time has started or will be starting in the next week for both reading and math in 4th and 5th grade.

Our teachers and staff continue to build positive culture in their classrooms and around school using Capturing Kids Hearts. The students have embraced this and are excited to share their good things, give affirmations to others and help support each other in making good choices each day.

We are also excited to have our after school activities starting up. We are about half way through our first intramural session with Mr. DeVoogd. The students are having a wonderful time learning and playing soccer. The weather has been wonderful and they have been able to play outside most days. Game club also started this week and art club will start in a few weeks. Student Council members have been chosen and their first meeting will be later this month as well.

We are excited to meet with parents on October 10th and 12th for parent teacher conferences. At that time teachers will share with you all the wonderful things your child has been up to the first 6 weeks of school. They will also go over students' progress report and scores on fall NWEA and Running Records as well as MStep testing from last spring.

As always feel free to reach out anytime to your child's teacher or the office if you have any questions or concerns.

Enjoy this beautiful fall weather!

Monthly Focus: Empathy

In September our Capturing Kids Hearts monthly focus area was Empathy. Students learned about Empathy and participated in lessons and activities around this topic.

In October Students will be learning about having Self-Direction. This is the ability and skill to set goals and take steps toward those goals with a focus on making positive choices.

Below you will find family newsletters with information and activities you can do at home for each month. We will continue to share this resource each month in the Pine Street Press.

Crossing Guard Needed

The City of Wayland is having difficulty in providing staffing for the City street crosswalks (the City provides crossing guards for City streets) that lead to Pine Street. Pine Street staff has covered on many occasions and just can't always be available due to parent/child needs during drop-off and pick-up. Please consider this opportunity to provide a safe crossing for students. Apply at the City of Wayland webpage if looking for a long-term, paid commitment (pay is $16 per hour and $10 per half hour). Also, if willing to volunteer to cover a post for a certain day of the week, or a week or two, speak to Principal Robyn Robinson until the City hires someone.
