GLA...when they see us...they will see greatness
Global Academies is currently working as a school on a comprehensive response to preventing a Coronavirus outbreak in any of our schools. A response plan will be rolled out to the network early next week. In the interim, one of the best ways to exercise preventive measures is to ensure proper and frequent hand-washing. Use morning community meetings/ Harambee as an opportunity to teach scholars about preventative measures they can take to prevent the spread of germs. Teachers should take time to teach Rising Stars (K-2) students proper hand washing techniques.
Steps to Proper Hand Washing
So what does a thorough hand washing involve? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the following steps:
- Wet your child’s hands.
- Apply clean bar soap or liquid soap to the hands, and then place the bar on a rack where it can drain before the next hand washing.
- Rub the hands vigorously together. Scrub every surface completely.
- Keep rubbing and scrubbing for 10 to 15 seconds to effectively remove the germs. (Sign the Happy Birthday song 2xs)
- Rinse the hands completely, then dry them.
Below you will find resources from the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the School District of Philadelphia. Take 10 minutes to review the resources as you plan for how to ensure both students and families are aware of the preventative steps they can take to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus and to ensure we are demonstrating our Global Greatness by ensuring that everyone embodies Respect, Responsibility, and Safety.
