Community Supported Agriculture
(or also known as) Community Shared Agriculture
What is the CSA?
The CSA has become popular over 25 years. This organization is an alternative that allows city residents to have access to locally based high quality fresh produce that is grown by regional farmers. It makes one a step closer to the farmer who handles and grows their food.
How does the CSA work?
- A farmer offers a certain amount of "shares" to the public.
("shares" are considered a box of vegetables with other farm products included.)
- Interested costumers then proceed to purchase a "share".
(Sometimes there will be a membership or subscription.)
- Eventually, you will receive a box, bag or basket of produce each week through the farming season.

Farmer Advantages:
- Farmers will get to spend time marketing food earlier on in the year, before 16 hour days on the farm begin.
- They will have the opportunity to befriend the people who eat the food they grow.
- They will get to receive pay early on in the season, which benefits the farms cash flow.

- It's been found that kids typically favor food from "their" farm even ones that they have never tried.
- Develop a relationship with the farmer that grows their food.
