Dear Parents, Whānau and Caregivers

A special welcome to Tredan who has started in Team Pounamu - Nau mai, Haere mai! Welcome also to Isabella and Kyryl who have started school in Uenuku. Kia ora and welcome to our friendly school!

Covid Update

We continue to have a surge of children unwell from other illnesses apart from Covid. Parents will be asked to collect their child if they become unwell at school for any reason. We strongly encourage Y4-6 students, all staff and visitors to continue wearing face coverings when indoors.

24% of our children and 26% of staff have tested positive since our first positive Covid case in March. We currently have three active cases across the whole school plus a handful of staff and students away because they are household contacts. That means there is 190 children and several staff who haven't tested positive for Covid. Therefore if we have an increasing number of cases within a class, syndicate or across the school, we will re-introduce compulsory mask wearing in Y4-6 for a set period of time to minimise the risk of spreading Covid. Parents, please make sure that Y4-6 students continue to bring a mask to school every day should the need arise to wear one. We will keep in touch with you if the situation changes. If there is a significant increase in staff sickness we may return to hybrid learning at very short notice, which could mean some classes or a syndicate learning from home because of staff shortages.

Teacher Only Day Reminder - Combined Local Schools Event

Our local intermediate and four primary schools are uniting to share knowledge and skills at a Professional Learning Day to be held on Friday 3 June (attached to Queen's Birthday weekend). Our teachers and teacher aides are looking forward to attending this event where we can learn about the amazing things that are happening in each other's schools.

Community Consultation about Health Education

Last week Parents, Whānau and Care-givers were invited to share what is important to them in relation to Health Education and the needs of their child/ren. Your opinions are considered when determining the Health Education programme at Paparangi School. Click on this link - which will take you to a google-form - please allow 10 minutes to complete the survey. Each family who completes the survey before the closing date has a chance to go into a lucky prize draw to win a $50 grocery voucher.

The survey was sent by email last week and closes at midday on Friday 10 June. You can pick up a paper copy from the office if you prefer. The survey instructions and guidelines about the Health Education programme that is currently provided at Paparangi School that were sent home last week will help you to complete the survey.

Enrolment Scheme

Enrolment at our school is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available on our website, The board has determined that up to 9 places will be available for out-of-zone students in our 4th enrolment period. We are currently accepting applications for out of zone students at all levels of the school. The exact number of places will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within the school’s home zone.

The fourth enrolment period for Term 4 runs from Saturday 1 October - 16 December 2022. For students seeking enrolment within term four, the deadline for receipt of applications for out of zone places is 9am, Friday 1 July 2022.

If the number of out of zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. If a ballot for out of zone places is required, it will be held on Monday 4 July 2022.

Parents will be informed of the outcome of their application within three working days of the ballot being held. Details of how applications from out of zone students are processed are available on our school website.

Parents of students who live within the home zone and intend to enrol their child at any time during this year or next year please also notify the school as soon as possible to assist the school to plan appropriately.

This notice will be published on the Paparangi School website, in newsletters and emailed to the families we know who live out of the zone. A copy may also be requested from the school office - email or call 04 4786617. Please note a public notice will no longer be published in the local newspaper. We ask that families please ensure your contact details, including address, are always up to date.
