"Bloom Where You Are Planted"
We have had a wonderful week of learning! Even though it was a tiring full week, students and teachers were all smiles as they engaged in learning up until the last bell. Thank you for getting your children here and on time each day.
Our new pick-up plan is working! We collected data each day and are happy to report that on Monday it took us 42 minutes to successfully load and exit all cars and today it was 26 minutes! Kudos to all of you who helped us work through the kinks. We have a new goal for next week of 20 minutes. Please remember, remove your yellow tag once all are loaded, remain in your vehicle while we load the students, and watch for the signal to exit.
*Ice cream sales are back on Wednesday in the cafeteria. New price for ice cream is $1.50
*Any transportation changes must be made by 2:00 pm
* Early outs are only accepted before 2:30 pm

Meet our SRO- Officer Nick McWright
Dear Parents,
I would like to introduce myself and tell you about myself. My name is Officer Nick McWright. I have been a Police Officer for 6 years and this is my first year as a School Resource Officers (SRO) with the district. A little back story for me, I was born in Nebraska. I moved around when I was young due to my father being in the Air Force. We moved to San Antonio when I was six where I have lived since my father retired. I graduated from O’Connor High School and got my bachelor’s degree from UTSA. During my last year at UTSA, I did my internship with the Boerne Police Department. I fell in love with the department and the city. After college, I completed the Police Academy and applied to work at the Boerne Police Department. I worked patrol for six years. Four years on night shift and two years on day shift. When the spot for SRO opened, I applied for the position. I was excited to find out I had received the position. I have been assigned to work here at Kendall Elementary School. I am looking forward to this year.
I want to let you know that I am here to make sure all the children of this campus are safe. All the Boerne campuses, Fair Oaks Ranch and the school’s out in the county as well will now have a full-time officer assigned to each campus. The other officers and I have been through a lot of training and are still going to be going to more to make ourselves a better more well-rounded officer. Due to the unfortunate recent events, All the SRO’s have been through another training that was put on by the FBI called “ALERT”. This training was to help us to train for an active shooter and to help us provide information to the teachers and staff to make sure the children are safe and protected.
During my time on campus, I will be making sure to check all exterior doors to make sure they are locked and secured. If I am to find a door that is unlocked or unsecure, I will lock it myself or I will call maintenance to come and fix the door to make it work properly. The only door that will be open will be the front main door. But once you come into that door, the next doors are locked and can only be opened from the inside or off the keypad. Also, I will be checking the perimeter of the school to make sure there is no damage or to make sure there are no issues with the gate or the building itself. For the parents who live in the apartments behind the school (The Roots), the gate between the school and apartments is to remain unlocked during the school hours. I will also be patrolling the hallways to make sure the classroom doors are locked as well if students are present in the classroom. During lunches I will be in the cafeteria with the students to interact and to also help monitor the students.
In the afternoon with parent pickup, I will be out to monitor the traffic and to help assist the staff with letting the cars go. I know we have implemented a new system to pick them up and it may cause a little confusion. With this new two lane pick up, If you are picking up your children you will need to wait till I release you to go so we do not have any cars moving in the drive that could harm a student or a staff member. When you go to exit, the right lane will have to turn right and have to drive to Old San Antonio Rd, and the left lane turn left and drive to Cascade Caverns Rd. Please do not go around the cones to make a U-turn because this causes traffic issues, and we are trying to make this as smooth as possible. I know this may cause an inconvenience to some parents and I apologize but this is what will make the student pick up move smoother and more efficient.
If you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call or you can send me an email. My office number is 830-357-4622 and my email is sro.nicholas.mcwright@boerneisd.net. Hope you all have a great day and hope all your students have a great and memorable school year.
Sincerely,
Officer Nick McWright #345

Transportation
As with the majority of school districts across the nation, Boerne ISD continues to have school bus driver vacancies. In order to provide you with as much predictability as possible we need to increase the number of double runs to your campus. What this means is that some routes will be dropped off earlier so that the same bus can go back to another area for that campus and pick-up another bus load. In the afternoon, some routes will have to wait for the bus to return for them. If your Bus Number has a P1 or P2 in the name, then the double run applies to your student’s stop.
Bus stop information online already has this plan built in. If you have any questions you can check for your stop times on the Boerne ISD bus stop finder website here, email the Transportation Department, or call the transportation office at (830) 357-2970.
It is important to note that we will continue to service every route in our district and have not cut any routes. We encourage parents and guardians to drive and carpool your children to school if at all possible in order to avoid additional traffic on our roadways and alleviate crowded buses.
If you or someone you know would like to apply to become a BISD Bus Driver please click here. We would love for you to join our team!
