Wilson's Weekly
Oct. 15-19, 2018
Math
Monday, we will begin our unit on "Telling Time". We'll start off by learning that time is continuous. We will also experiment with activities that take seconds or minutes to complete. Tuesday, the students will see how time can be plotted on a number line. Wednesday & Thursday, they'll practice counting time up to the nearest minute. Friday, the students will take the Telling Time Mid-Test.
Reading
Monday, we will discuss some of the features found in nonfiction books - picture captions, diagrams with labels, a glossary, an index, and maps. Tuesday, the students will take the I-Ready Reading Diagnostic to see how far they have progressed with their reading since the beginning of the school year. Wednesday & Thursday, we will be reading The Big Fitz and recording some of the facts we learn from it and questions that we have about the topic.
Writing & Spelling
On Monday & Wednesday, we will look at various ways to create a strong ending. Thursday, the students will wrap up their narrative by writing their conclusion. Friday, the students will begin typing their final copy.
Rather than starting a new Spelling unit this week, we will again be focusing on "Capitalization". Monday, we will review that anytime we begin a sentence, it needs to start with a capital letter. Tuesday, we will practice fixing sentences that contain capitalization errors. Wednesday, the students will take the Capitalization Mid-Test. Thursday, we'll go over the correct answers to the mid-test.
Social Studies
Monday, we will create a map using various symbols and use the symbols to read & answer questions about the map. Tuesday, the students will create a map following step-by-step instructions. Wednesday, we will walk through a rubric on how they will construct their own map, decide what place they would like to map out, and design a rough draft sketch. Thursday & Friday, the students will be creating the final copy of their map.
