December’s Word of the Month: Compassion
Food Drive:
It is that time of the year again for our annual food drive. The food donated during the week of December 4-8 will help the Christmas Store at the First Christian Church in Knob Noster. Below are suggested items to donate each day.
Monday - Canned Fruit
Tuesday - Boxed Dinners (ex: tuna/chicken/hamburger helper)
Wednesday - Canned Vegetables
Thursday - Cereal
Friday - Canned Soup
There will be boxes in the lobby for the kids to drop the food off in each morning.
Deployment
The MFLC counselor and myself offer weekly deployment groups. The purpose of the group is to increase student knowledge about deployment, build student competencies and provide a safe environment to express feelings within a supportive peer network.
Please notify me by email, jhennrich@knobnoster.k12.mo.us or phone, 660-563-3028 ext. 4503 if you will be or are deployed and would like for your child to participate in the group.
3rd Grade Musical Performance
It’s time to mark your calendars! 3rd grade will be performing a musical titled “A Place in the Christmas Choir” on Thursday December 7th at 6:00. We will also be performing for the whole school on the 7th at 2:15. You are more than welcome to attend the afternoon showing.
Mrs. Nielsen
Ned Show
The NED Show is a character education program that centers around three important messages that have life long relevance: Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best.
Ned gear will be available for purchase for 5 days after the show at our school. December 4th-December 8th in the mornings. Prices are listed on the flyer attached below. Our school gets the Ned Show for free because we're hosting a Pay- It - Forward sale. When you purchase a Ned item, you help send this assembly on to the next school.
Letter from Principal
During this holiday season of celebration, giving, and family gatherings, I am reminded of the following quote from the Dalai Lama: “Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.” I feel very fortunate to be at Whiteman Elementary, where our teachers show love and compassion to our students’ lives every day.
The month of December encompasses several fun activities. 3rd Grade Musical Performance will be Thursday, December 7th. Our winter parties are scheduled for Friday, December 15th. Winter Break will begin Friday, December 15th with early dismissal at 1:00 and school will resume Wednesday, January 3rd.
As the weather begins to get colder, please remember that students will generally be outside for recess and need to dress appropriately. With the colder weather, more students are being driven to school. To insure safety and to facilitate smooth traffic flow, it is essential that parents adhere to the following drop-off and pickup procedures.
A single line is formed in our parking lot for both dropping off and picking up students before and after school. Please no passing cars in this line because this creates more of a safety hazard for everyone during these busy times of the school day.
Cars should move forward as far as possible along the sidewalk before stopping so that the maximum number of students will be able to be dropped off/picked up at the same time. This needs to be an efficient process and cars that stop short add to the congestion problem.
If it is necessary to park your car, please escort your children across the parking lot by using the crosswalk, sidewalk or holding their hand across the parking lot. Students should NEVER be allowed to walk in the parking lot without an adult.
With winter weather approaching, the chance of weather related delays in regards to bus schedules becomes a greater possibility. When we experience a significant incident due to weather or any other problem we will try to place an all call to the effected families with information when possible. Please stay connected with our building and district through social media. I posted how to opt-in to our school messenger, the letter that Dr. Wheeler sent out about inclement weather, and posted some different weather channels to stay tuned to in the mornings.
During Winter Break, we would like for you to remember to have your child read for 20 minutes or more each day. Reading is such a powerful tool for building a child’s mind. We want our families and community to help us achieve our high expectations for each student. Your input and support is very important to us. Please feel free to contact me anytime with any ideas, questions, or concerns.
Every day, every child in every classroom learns, grows, and feels respected.
In conclusion, I hope that each one of you have a safe and joyful holiday season
and take time to enjoy your family.

We encourage parents to participate in the district's SMS text messaging service, and opt-in to receive text messages in the case of school closings for inclement weather or for other school message alerts. If you have not already opted in and wish to do so, I am including the SchoolMessenger opt-in instructions flyer. Please email me if you have any questions. Also to watch for cancellations as well on channels Fox 4, KcTV 5, and KMBC.
