Andrews Elementary
On Wings of Excellence - 12/08/2017
Dear Andrews Family,
It is difficult to believe that we are quickly approaching the conclusion of the first semester - time sure flies when you're having fun! This past week has been full of activity! Students have been diligently working on their mid-year MAP tests, and how rewarding it is to celebrate the academic growth that has occurred during this first semester!
Please note that we need for you to send an RSVP to your child’s homeroom teacher by Monday (12/18) at noon if you have already completed your volunteer background check and plan to help at your child’s/children’s winter party on Tuesday (12/19). It is our desire to make the required check-in process at the office as quick as possible so that you don’t miss a minute of your child’s party. By sending an RSVP to your child’s homeroom teacher no later than Monday (12/18) at noon, we will be able to work ahead of time and therefore expedite the check-in process. Thank you in advance for taking the time to RSVP if you plan to attend!
As always, thank you for your support as we work together along this educational journey. I hope that you and your family enjoy a wonderful weekend.

Take a Taste Tuesday
Take a Taste Tuesday
Each week, one class will get a chance to try a fruit or vegetable that starts with the letter of the week. The students learn about the food on the morning announcements. This week for the letter F, Nurse Sherbert and Ms. Hickman introduced the fig. Fig trees date during the time of the dinosaurs, over 100 million years! Today, the country of Turkey is the top world producer of figs. Figs can be eaten fresh or dried, and are known to be sweet and chewy. Figs are known to help lower elevated blood glucose levels, and are packed with vitamins A, E, and K. A good way to get a serving of figs is in the Fig Newton cookie, it has been sold in stores since 1892! Ms. Ellis’ kindergarten class got to taste the sweet taste of figs in Fig Newton cookie and gave a unanimous thumbs up! We hope that this will encourage your children to try new things. Try to incorporate figs into a healthy treat soon!
