The Houston Invitational News
We hit a record-breaking year beating our 2020 year numbers of 254 skaters and have registered 265 skaters this year! The committee is so excited about this and feel we have reached our goal of being a classy and fun competition that is every skater's annual tradition! We had over 30 volunteers and an estimated 1000+ competitors and spectators throughout our 51.5 hour weekend! Thank YOU to everyone who made this amazing event possible! We are so blessed to have you all! And a thank you to Aerodrome for hosting our competition and opening their rink to us for the weekend! Until next year..... here's a thank you and recap!
Next test session
The next Test Session will be held Saturday, April 15th, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at BELLERIVE ICE CENTER. Space is very limited and its currently closed. If you were unable to get into this test session you may contact Memorial FSC of Houston, as we are working together and they stated they had a few openings left for their session on Sunday.

USFS GRADUATING SENIORS AWARD PROGRAM: DEADLINE MARCH 15, 2023
The Graduating Seniors Program was developed to recognize the achievements of those individuals graduating from high school who have made the commitment to continue their training in figure skating while pursuing their academic studies. The purpose of this program is to honor and credit those qualified graduates for their achievements during their high school years through the presentation of a certificate to the skater during a school function or recognition opportunity. To further applaud the achievements of the individuals awarded, U.S. Figure Skating will publish the names of the recipients on both the U.S. Figure Skating Graduating Seniors Program webpage, as well as in SKATING magazine.

Skater Spotlights!
Good Luck Sandra!
Sandra Flannagan will be attending the 2023 Adult Figure Skating Championships with her coach, Mark Janoschak for the15th year! She will be competing in 3 events: dramatic, interpretation, and Light comedy interpretation adult solo freestyle. Sandra's favorite part of going to adult nationals is competing, and seeing so many adults supporting each other. "There's such positive energy there and I see so many women that are much older than me that are doing a great job and that inspires me to keep going."
Sandra's advice to younger skaters: "Skate for the love of it, and don't be so hard on yourself. Try not to compare yourself to others. It only makes it more difficult for you. Always remember how blessed you are to be able to skate and compete.
Sandra's advice to other adults: "Feel blessed that you can do something like. this. I call it TMM, time mental, and money! All three of those have to line up so you can skate and compete. Enjoy the love of learning and don't be so hard on yourself. Feel blessed every time you put your skates on the ice and realize how fortunate you are to be able to do something as wonderful as this."
Something fun about Sandra? She has been both of the Wonder Woman characters and medaled in both! She has also been Avatar, Dolly Parton, Black Widow, Cat Woman, Madonna, and many other fun characters. Over the years, she has won seven gold medals, a few silver and bronze. But, she reports, "seven gold is an awesome feeling!"
Sandra, we wish you luck in the coming weeks as you head to Adult Nationals!
