Fall Sports Updates from Our Coaches
Volleyball
Varsity volleyball started the season by going 2-1 this week. They defeated Rock Ridge on Monday in 4 sets, defeated Woodgrove on Tuesday in 3 sets, and lost to Freedom Thursday night in 5 sets. JV Volleyball went 2-1 with wins against Rock Ridge and Woodgrove, while the freshmen went 1-2.
Football
Varsity football beat Woodgrove last Friday 49-7. Marshall Mattison led the way with 5 touchdowns and Jeremiah Covington-Griggs and Eli Mason added the others. The Bulldogs rushed for 407 yards in the game. JV and 9th grade football both beat Briar Woods as well, with JV winning 22-0.
Golf
The Stone Bridge High School Bulldog golfers won their first match of the 2021 Spring Season vs Woodgrove High School with a score of 170 to 199. Low medalists for the match were Stone Bridge's sophomore Gautham Bai Reddy and freshman Jennifer Osborne, shooting scores of 42 on a wet Belmont Country Club front nine. The team performed admirably on a very wet golf course with winds up to 30 miles per hour in our second match of the season, beating the Rock Ridge High School golf team by a score of 172 to 173. The Bulldogs were resilient and determined in their play and have moved to 2-0 in their matches this season.
Field Hockey
Field hockey went 2 and 0 this week, with two hard-fought wins against tough opponents. Our season opener against Woodgrove went into overtime with Norah Otto scoring the goal to tie the game and Emily Paulson scoring the winning goal. For our home opener against Freedom, we took the lead early on, with Norah Otto and Avery Moon scoring goals to put us up 2-0. After a goal by Freedom in the second half, we went into defensive mode and managed to hold the lead and win the game!

Equity in Education Month
In an effort to encourage equity in education, the VSBA Board of Directors has designated the month of March as VSBA Equity in Education Month. Equity in education is a significant challenge nationwide. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, in 2017 the majority of public-school students were students of color, and more than half of public school students qualify for subsidized meals due to low family income. Public education has struggled to serve these students both adequately and equitably. When inequity in education persists, there is a cost to all involved including missed opportunities for economic development, greater dependence on government supports, and fewer Americans ready to serve and lead. The Loudoun County School Board has also recognized March as Equity in Education Month.

SBHS Library Updates
The library is excited to see some students in-person! Welcome back! If you are returning to the building, please drop off any books you may have from the spring or from this year that are now overdue. There are never fines for overdue books!
Students can always use our catalog to place a hold, our book request form on our website, or email a librarian for assistance in getting materials you need or want. Requested materials are in the main hallway for DL students to pick up; hybrid students can pick up materials from the circulation desk; we will set up an e-hall pass for you.
Office hours continue during the lunch block at SBLIB.
