The Manning Weekly Update

September 10, 2023

Big picture

Dear Manning Families,

Now that our school year is off the ground and we head into our fifth week of school, we are gearing up with a number of great opportunities to engage and partner with our community in this important work of educating and nurturing our students.

Coming up this Friday, September 15, is our first Coffee with the Principal Event beginning at 8:30 in the library. As I shared last week, this is an informal opportunity to hear about our start to the year as well as learn about Signs of Suicide from our SELS, Kari Gray.

On Thursday, September 21, join us at 3:45 for our first PTA meeting of the year! Lastly, join us on Thursday, September 28 at 5pm for our first Parent Partnership Meeting. Look for an agenda in the coming weeks.

A few other important reminders and updates:

  • Turning left onto 32nd Avenue - During our peak traffic times (at drop off and pick-up), please remember that only right-hand turns are permitted onto 32nd Avenue. Aside from backing up traffic, this also poses a safety concern for our students.
  • Annual Lock Down Drill - We will be holding our annual lockdown drill on Thursday, September 14 beginning at 2:15pm. For more information about the lockdown drill and to access resources about our standard response protocol, please check out THIS LINK. Reach out to Matt with questions.

Last but certainly not least, the PTA's biggest fundraiser- FALL FEST, is right around the corner. This is a great opportunity to meet other parents, have a great social time and support Manning. There are links below to get involved either by donating an auction item, volunteering or entering a chili recipe, and of course purchasing tickets to be part of the fun. I look forward to seeing you there.

As your principal, I am here to serve our community. My door is always open, and I welcome your partnership in this important work!

In Partnership,

Matt

A special thanks to our incredible PTA and 6th grade families for loading the lounge for our staff this week!

Dear Manning parents and community:

This year’s Manning Fall Fest, which includes a Chili Cook Off and a Silent Auction will be held on Friday October 6th. This evening of fun and community spirit is the PTA’s largest fundraising event of the year. Fundraising from last year’s Fall Festival enabled the PTA to fulfill our amazing teacher's wish lists, purchase new security cameras, provide college scholarships to Manning alumni students, and fund memorable 8th grade continuation ceremonies and picnics. The success of the event depends on the generous tax-deductible donations of our Manning families and community. Please think about how you might help, as you ponder your resources, talents, hobbies, and abilities!

Donating is easy, just complete the Auction Donation Form and deliver the items to the school by September 22nd.

We thank you in advance for your time, consideration and generosity in supporting our school. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Tickets are available now until 9/15 and cost $20 each. After the 15th the cost will be $25

Achievement Time starts Thursday, September 14th

What is Achievement Time?

Achievement Time is Manning’s way to keep students aware of their grades and help them repair grades if they fall to an “F” in any one class. This is meant to be a supportive weekly program, not meant to be a punishment. Staff will be available during Achievement time to help provide extra support to help students improve their grade(s).

Below is a brief outline of the Achievement process, please review the Achievement procedures on our website for more details and to familiarize yourself with the program.

  • Friday: Grade report is run in the morning, students with an "F" will be notified of required Achievement time.
  • Wednesday afternoon: Due date to turn in teacher signed Achievement slip confirming student has improved his/her grade. If a student turns in his/her Achievement slip by the deadline, they will not be required to attend Achievement.
  • Thursday 3:30-4:15pm: Achievement Time. Required for students who were unable to improve their grade.

Go Fund Me for Babette Norton

Our wonderful friend, Babette Norton, was in a terrible car accident on May 25, 2023. Her ankle was severely injured and after three surgeries and twelve weeks of non-weight bearing status, she is now faced with even more time as non-weight bearing. She is currently living in an assisted living facility because her home is a tri-level and she can't maneuver the stairs safely. There is no specific end in sight for her recovery and she has a long road ahead. Please donate to help Babette make the accommodations such as stair lifts, ramps and safety rails to her house so that she can return home. Thank you so much for your generosity and we will update as Babette continues to heal.

The ID card dilemma 🙂

Here's the scoop. New this year Jeffco Food & Nutritional Services implemented an ID card scanning program to aid the new free lunch program under Healthy School Meals for All. Scanning cards moves the lunch line much more efficiently. LifeTouch came and issued new ID cards to all students that had pictures taken on 8/22. The dilemma is that the cards are getting lost. We have had multiple requests for new cards in just this past week and we have to order them from LifeTouch. We will be issuing the first replacement card for free, but card requests after that will cost $5. Students will need their cards for multiple events during the year like Movie Night on 9/15 and the Halloween dance coming up in October. Please help us, help our kids keep track of their cards.

We have lanyards in the main office to hole punch cards and hopefully that will help!
