Tustumena Elementary Newsletter
November 19, 2019
Dear Tustumena Families,
This Friday, we have our annual PTO fundraiser Turkey Bingo from 6-8pm. Come on out for an evening of fun playing Bingo and support our PTO. There will also be a Split the Pot Raffle and Cash Raffle tickets available. You must be 19 or older to play bingo. Kids will have the opportunity to play Lynxo for books (free) in the library. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.
Enstar has generously decided to sponsored a school-wide pizza party on December 12th. There will not be a school "hot lunch" option that day. If you would like your child to eat something other than the pizza party, please notify the school two weeks prior so we can have a sack lunch available (by Nov 27th), or send your child with a sack lunch on December 12th. Also, thank you to Enstar for donating winter gear - we appreciate you helping keep our students warm!
Although we don't have a music teacher this year, we have decided to put together a Winter Program anyway! Classes have all put together a short skit, song, or other presentation. We are looking forward to seeing what everyone has come up with. Please join us on Thursday, December 19th at 6pm in the Tustumena gym.
Our after school Cross Country Skiing club is in need of some good quality youth/kids size cross country skiing equipment. If you have any skis, boots, or poles that you are no longer using and would like to donate them to the school, we would be very appreciative. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
The PTO is planning our annual Box Tops Store for December 11th! This is a great opportunity for kids to pick out gifts for themselves and their families. If you have any gently used items or toys to donate, please bring them to the office. Your contributions are greatly appreciated.
Would you like your child's picture up on the bulletin board in the lunch room? Bring in a picture of them with your garden, eating fruits or veggies, or another healthy food related picture and we will put some up on our revamped "Alaska Grown" bulletin board!
Have you submitted your volunteer application so you can join in on class parties or attend field trips? If not, please do so at www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us and click on volunteers. If you have difficulty accessing the internet, you are welcome to come to the Kasilof Public Library (in our school) during their hours Monday-Thursday 2-6pm (changing to M-F 2-5pm on December 4th) and use the computers in there. We would love to have you join in on classroom activities, but this is a district requirement before you can participate.
A Message from Miss Thompson in the Library:
All library books are due by Friday, December 13. Be sure to find and return your overdue books or pay for your books if you’ve lost them.
A Reminder Regarding Recess and Winter Gear:
From the Primary Teachers: Students MUST wear snow pants, boots, jacket, hat and gloves outside for recess. I know the weather has been warmer, but the snow pants help keep the students dry since the playground is very wet. If your child does not wear his/her snow pants outside for recess, he/she will have his/her name written on the clipboard. After his/her name is written on the clipboard three times, a formal write-up will be done and your child will lose one Lynx Track. Your child will also only play on the blacktop if he/she does not have snow pants or boots so he/she will not get his/her clothes or shoes wet. Your child may keep his/her winter gear at school if this is easier. The weather changes suddenly here. It is good to keep winter gear on hand at school.
From the Intermediate teachers: All 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students are now required to have snow pants, warm coats, hats, gloves, and boots. Students should notify their teacher if they don’t have the necessary clothing. Students who don’t have the necessary clothing will not be allowed to participate in recess. In addition, kids who repeatedly lose or forget their gear will lose Lynx Tracks.
If your student is in need of winter gear, please notify our school nurse, Nurse Claudette at 260-1345, and we will see about helping them out.
