Information/Updates about Westerville Central High School
Message from Mr. Lanier
I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who helped the Central learning community deal with the incident that occurred November 1. Traumatic events have a lingering effect and our staff, with the help of the district crisis team, did a phenomenal job helping our students. Our students and staff are quite simply, AMAZING. I am hopeful that the outpouring of positive, kind, and supportive behavior that we saw in the wake of this incident becomes the norm for every member of our school and community!
This newsletter will feature many events that we experienced in October along with coming dates that we look forward to in November.

Grace Welty Raises Money for Freedom a la Cart
Grace Welty, Girls' Golf, took time before the season to ask donors to give money for every par that she scored during the fall golf season. Grace had 98 pars this fall, and the total amount she raised for the charity is $4,694.50.
Freedom a la Cart is an organization that brings hope to survivors of human trafficking to build a new life of freedom and self-sufficiency. They give women practical job skills to create a pathway to freedom, at Freedom a la Cart they have created a safe place of restoration where survivors can heal, learn and grow as they prepare for sustainable employment with our community.
Central is super proud of Grace's efforts to raise awareness about the issue and to raise money to help those in need.

Attendance Info
Students who attend school regularly will experience greater success than students who have poor attendance. Helping students with attendance issues is a team effort that includes the family, school counselors, administration and health care providers. Proactive communication around attendance will help the team work together to support students in their efforts to be successful in their academic experience.
Please find some helpful hints from our attendance clerk below to help get the school year started off on the right foot:
Attendance Office Phone #: 614-797-6820
Please call when you know that your student is going to be absent from school for any reason.
Appointments
Occasionally students have a medical or dental appointment during school hours. In the event that such an appointment is necessary, the following procedure must be used or that student will be considered unexcused: A note from the parent/guardian prior to the appointment is appropriate. A phone call/voice mail message at least 1 hour prior to the student’s necessary dismissal time is acceptable. Parental/guardian calls and notes must be specific about the reason for and the time of the appointment and the approximate time of return. Prior to leaving the building, the student must stop in the attendance office to sign out. Upon return, the student must sign in to the attendance office and bring verification of his/her doctor, dentist, or court appointment.
Thanks for your help in helping us track your child's attendance.

Athletics Info
Mr. Ey has started the Letterman's Leadership Group that is made up of student athletes from each of the sports that are played at Westerville Central High School. One of the biggest goals that this group has is to volunteer their time at Alcott Elementary reading to students there and letting them know what it means to be a Warhawk. Super proud of the work that this group is doing and the leadership provided by Mr. Ey.
Please visit our Athletic Webpage for the latest in Warhawk Athletic News and upcoming contests.
