Principal's Message
Congratulations to our students and staff for the amazing performances at our Christmas concert this year. It is a great way to share our talents with the many families and friends who joined us for our performance. Job well done!!
We would like to extend a large thank you to Second to None Catering for the turkey lunch they prepared in partnership with Discovery Coop. Special thanks to Discovery Coop for donating the turkeys and all the fixings as well as to the workers who helped to serve. It was a great way to come together as a community.
As we begin the year 2020, it is sure to be a busy school year filled with learning, laughter and growth. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Miss Alison Mandin to our grade 5 classroom. We are excited to have you with us in the mornings while Ms. Kipp joins your classroom in the afternoon. Welcome to Mrs. Lisa Cowell who has joined us full time in our grade 3 classroom.
Dressing for the Weather
At this time of the year the weather can change drastically from morning to afternoon or from day to day. Students are expected to go outside at recess unless the temperature condition reaches -26 degrees with the wind chill.
Going outside and getting a little fresh air is a nice change for students from their daily classroom routine. Students are expected to dress appropriately for the weather. A warm jacket, mitts, and a toque is recommended. Please see the office if you require assistance in providing these things for your children.

Family Literacy Week
Family Literacy Week is January 27- February 1st. Family Literacy Day was created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other
literacy-related activities as a family. This year the theme is to "Take 20 in 2020"–
take 20 minutes each day to incorporate learning together into your everyday routine. Watch for your note later this month outlining our school events to celebrate this important week.

Grade 5 - & Ski Day
Friday, January 24th, 2019 the grade 5-7 classes will be going to Table Mountain for a ski day. There is no cost for the lesson, ski rentals or the ski pass. However, you will be responsible for lunch money or a bag lunch.
Students must participate in order to attend the event. If you decide your child should not attend he/she will be expected to be at school for that day.
A bus will take the students to the hill at 9:00 am sharp (we will not wait for students who are
late), and we will return to the school by around 3:00 pm.
If you have ski equipment there will be a truck available to transport equipment.
Students are not allowed to remain at the hill as the hill is no longer open to the public.
Also, if needed, we ask that you inform the school of an updated phone number so if an injury
occurs we have the means to contact you.
As this is a school event all school policy rules apply in addition to the safety rules of Table
Mountain. If a student breaks these rules they will be taken home.
There are no lockers so we encourage your child to leave their valuables (such a phones) at
home. Please have your child dress for the weather.
Sunscreen (for windburn) and sunglasses are encouraged.

Grade 1 & 2 Dental Sealant
The Government of Saskatchewan is continuing to take steps to improve the oral health of children by increasing access to dental care, particularly preventive services for children at risk of tooth decay. The Saskatchewan Health Authority in your area will be continuing the dental sealant program at your school for the 2019/2020 school year.
This year the dental sealant program will be offered to grade 1 students, with a follow up of the grade 2 students that were seen last year. The students that enroll in the program will receive:
ü A dental screening to determine if sealants are appropriate.
ü Dental sealants on erupted permanent molars
ü A Fluoride varnish application to strengthen the teeth and help prevent tooth decay
ü A Practice lesson on brushing, flossing and nutrition
ü Toothbrush and other dental items
ü Dental sealant check on sealants done last year (grade 2’s)
The oral health program will be visiting our school on January 28 to 30th. Please ensure that you have returned your son/daughter's consent form. If you need an additional copy please contact the office.
