What causes Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder?
There is no known cause but it's generally accepted that it is caused by brain abnormalities.
What are the symptoms?
Difficulty with communication, difficulty with social interactions, obsessive interests, and repetitive behaviors.
What's going on in the body?
No one knows for sure what causes autism. It's a complex biological disorder. Scientists believe that the underlying cause of autism is genetic.
What are the treatments?
Early recognition, as well as behavioral, educational, and family therapies may reduce symptoms and support development and learning.
What is the prevention for this issue?
- Have regular check-ups, eat healthy, exercise and take all recommended vitamins and supplements when you are pregnant.
- Do not take drugs during pregnancy unless your doctor approves; this is particularly true for some antiseizure medications.
- Do not drink alcoholic beverages of any kind while you are pregnant.
- If you've been diagnosed with PKU or celiac disease, get treatment.

Why is this?
A study led by a team of Toronto scientists has discovered that males who carry specific genetic alterations on their X-chromosome have an elevated risk for developing autism spectrum disorder, or ASD.
