International Day and the week of:
International Day is on Friday, October 30th. For those of you that are new to ISB, this event is an amazing ISB tradition. International Day provides students with an opportunity to celebrate their cultures and also to experience and learn about others. ISB is truly an international school and this day will highlight this. I encourage you to come visit. Our class will be having a different snack(s) each day the week of international day. If you are interested in providing a snack that is associated with your home culture, please contact our room mothers. We would love for parents to come join us in the classroom and speak about their home culture.

Reading
We are almost done with our study of characters. Students have practiced applying their thinking about a character across longer texts and have also explored and practiced more non-literal thinking. Ask your child about their thinking after reading at home:
Math
We have wrapped up our study of measurement and are now studying place value and large numbers. Our class will focus on how understanding place value can help us add and subtract larger numbers with ease and also how to apply our understanding of numbers to problem solving. Students have started problem solving journals and make entries each day. We have learned and practiced new ways to show our thinking.
Writing
Our class has completed writing personal narratives. Last week, we focused on revising our writing. Students recorded a screen cast showing a page of their writing before and after revision. Then, they discussed the specific techniques and strategies they employed to bring their writing to life. Students also published one of their personal narratives; students read their favorite in a screen cast. Watch their video clips by visiting your child's page above.
Social Emotional Learning
Ms. Kate Kersey, the elementary K-2 counselor has taught lessons to our class about social and emotional skills. Mr. Hagen also teaches skills around these 5 main areas:
