One Book One School Celebration...."Differences Make Us Stronger"
Our summer reading books focused on the differences of four middle school students. Just recognizing or "tolerating" differences is not enough. We will strive to work hard to build a positive community here at Furnace Brook, and we appreciate your support with helping us to achieve this goal.
Thank you, teachers, for your creativity, and thank you, students, for your dedication to doing well and partnering with peers to celebrate the day! Check out the pictures below!
Our next activity is in November. The author of one of our books, "Count Me In," will present two assemblies. We can't wait! We are sharing this experience with Hingham Middle School who is having the same speaker (and same book) for their students. Thank you, PTO, for funding this event!
Thank you, Mrs. Alberico, for your hard work on OBOS!!
Term I Mid-term & Upcoming Calendar for OCTOBER
Important Dates:
FBMS Quarter I Mid-Term 9/30 which means an electronic progress report will be posted to ASPEN on Monday10/3 at the close of the day. The mid-term progress report is a report of progress. It shows where your child is half way through the first quarter. This is a great time to sit down with your child to discuss progress and set goals for the remainder of the quarter.
We encourage you to reach out to your child's teacher with any questions. Look for successes to celebrate and discuss areas of improvement. It's important to note that your child's teachers offer after school help, and for this purpose we offer late busses M-Th. Please check your child's teacher's CANVAS page for dates extra help is offered.
To help children with work completion and offer extra help, every child also has a "What I Need" (WIN) class everyday for 25 minutes. It is during this class that students can ask questions and get started on HW.
Almost all assignments have a specific turn around time. A homework assignment might be a one-day turnaround and a longer assignment might be two days or a week. Teachers state due dates to students both in class and online. Specific timelines and grading practices are stated in each teacher's syllabus which is given at the beginning of the year and typically posted in CANVAS. Due dates help to keep students progress on track and grades to be reflective of achievement.

LATE BUS SCHEDULE
Late buses allow students to stay after school for enrichment and extra help when it is offered. These buses come to our school an hour after our normal dismissal to take students home.
At 3:20PM, we call students down to the lobby, and they get on the appropriate bus. There are two buses: one is "South Bus" and the other "North Bus." Each bus covers a specific geographical area of Marshfield and has limited stops. The buses depart here at 3:30PM.
Below are the bus stops for both North and South bus. With your home address in mind, please identify whether your child is a "South" or "North" bus rider so that he/she knows which bus to take. These are not the normal bus routes your child takes in the morning and afternoon to get to and from school, so your child needs to know how to walk home from the late bus stop.
Please know that we have other events here at school that sometimes run later than 3:30PM (such as drama) and require a parent ride.
If you have any questions, please give us a call and we will try to help you determine the correct bus (781-834-5020).
