Fulton Science Academy to Send Seven Teams to National & International Academic Championships During 2016-17 School Year
This is a record for our school! Middle and high school teams chosen to advance in competition include Chess, Destination Imagination, History Bowl, Math Olympiad, Model UN, Robotics and Science Olympiad. These teams provide vital life skills to the participants and offer good preparation for college.
Great job, kids, and coaches!
While some competitions require minimal entrance fees, others are quite costly. As such, three FSA teams have established unique, independent fundraising sites to help them raise a combined total of $45,000.
Right now, these teams would like YOUR HELP in the form of donations and/or corporate sponsorships. Due to tax laws, families are not allowed to make a contribution that is designated to cover their child's trip expenses; however, donations made in support of specific teams will be applied towards the teams' total expenditures, thus reducing (if not eliminating) the per person fees.
CORPORATE SPONSORSHIPS are a wonderful way for companies to show their support of FSA and our academic teams. Please contact Megan Bowman in the school's advancement office, advancement@fultonscienceacademy.org, to discuss ways your business can be a part of history at FSA!
Please also feel free to share academic team websites via your social media accounts, email blasts, etc. For a school of our size to have an opportunity to represent Georgia in seven competitions is quite an accomplishment! Thank you in advance for your support.
To Support Destination Imagination
The Destination Imagination Challenge Program is a fun, hands-on system of learning that fosters students’ creativity, curiosity and courage through academic Challenges. Challenges blend STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education with the arts and social entrepreneurship.
Students who participate learn invaluable 21st-century skills as well as patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, and the collaborative problem-solving process.
Four FSA teams have been selected to advance to the 2017 Global Finals this spring in Tennessee. The program impacts more than 150,000 students in 48 states and 30 countries.

Tomorrow’s innovators practice imaginative thinking and teamwork. Guided by adult coaches, FIRST LEGO League teams research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology, then compete on a table-top playing field.
It all adds up to tons of fun while they learn to apply science, technology, engineering, and math concepts (STEM), plus a big dose of imagination, to solve a problem. Along their discovery journey, they develop critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and even presentation skills, as they must present their solutions with a dash of creativity to judges. They also practice the Program’s signature Core Values.
This year, FSA's all-female robotics team, Control+Alt+Delete was chosen as the first team ever to represent the state of Georgia in the International Open Championship this summer in Bath, UK.

For the past 33 years, Science Olympiad has led a revolution in science education. What began as a grassroots assembly of science teachers is now one of the premier science competitions in the nation, providing rigorous, standard-based challenges to 7,600 teams in 50 states.
Science Olympiad's ever-changing line-up of events in all STEM disciplines exposes students to practicing scientists and career choices and energizes classroom teachers with a dynamic content experience.
This year, Fulton Science Academy will send a team of 19 students to Nationals in Ohio.
Why FSA?
"My son is in 7th grade. This is our first year at FSA, and we really love it. I get daily updates on my son's progress. The teachers are very friendly and highly professional. The most important thing for me is that my son gets a professional education. I'm very satisfied with the school and most likely will send my other children there next year, too."
"I have 2 children at FSA and couldn't be happier. The teachers are excellent and you can tell the entire faculty really cares. The curriculum and homework are tough but fair, and I've seen significant growth in both children as a result. I would definitely recommend FSA."
"FSA fosters a very positive enriching environment for kids. We are very happy with the kind of exposure our kid is getting at this school. It encourages the kids to have an all round development. Including sports, music, and art in their daily school activities has been a plus in addition to the STEM curriculum. We are looking forward to our kid flourishing in this learning environment."
"FSA has been perfect for my child. We were looking for a school with a focus on academics while providing opportunities for all round development and FSA fit the bill for us. My daughter is only in Pre-K and pleasantly surprised me by defining "Gravity" to me a couple of days back. She said she learned that in Robotics class. I love that she is being exposed to so many things while having fun. She wakes up every morning and tells us the fun plan for the day - going to the library, having her violin class, show & tell... The teachers are excellent and take so much effort to make learning a rewarding experience."
