Welcome to Pivot Charter School

Welcome and congratulations on your decision to join the Pivot Charter School program and family.


As a new or returning student of Pivot Charter school, you are bound to have questions. So, in an effort to make your transition from your previous school as smooth and easy as possible, we are pleased to welcome you to Your Road Trip to Success-Pivot Charter School Orientation!


Before you get started on your courses we ask that you follow this orientation guide and view each of the videos to complete your mandatory orientation. This orientation is designed to help answer all of your questions and to provide you with information about our online resources, policies, and services.


In order to view the orientation guide in its entirety, please click on the guide located in your email and view it in a separate browser. Please grab a pen, the handout provided by your EC, and take notes while you follow along!


Once you've completed the online orientation, you’ll be on your way to becoming a successful Pivot Charter School student!

REACHING YOUR DESTINATION...SUCCESS!!!

Congratulations, you have now completed your orientation! However, there is one final stop before you reach your destination. It's time to set some goals!


Setting goals helps increase your motivation, gives you purpose and direction, and helps you organize your time and resources. We encourage you to set academic and life goals throughout the year. To assist with this we have provided this Goal-Setting Worksheet.


After you click on the link above to access your Goal-Setting Worksheet, select file, then download, and complete it along with your parents or at home support system. Once completed, please turn the worksheet into your Educational coordinator. Now you are ready to get started on your classes!!!

Pivot Charter School Tampa Staff

Principal - Elizabeth Bretz

Mrs. Liz Bretz joins the Pivot team with 14 years of experience in Illinois. She attended MacMurray College receiving bachelors' degrees in Marketing /Business Administration and Elementary Education. In addition, she received her Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Illinois at Springfield. As a teacher for seven years, Mrs. Bretz taught grades Kindergarten through 4th grade in both the urban and rural setting. As a parent of three children and an educator, she understands that all children learn in their own unique way and should be given the opportunity to do so. Mrs. Bretz believes strongly in keeping students actively engaged in their learning and hopes that she is seen as a model for lifelong learning.


Lead Educational Coordinator III - Robert Gresham

Robert E. Gresham IV a native of Jacksonville, Florida has been an educator for 9 years. He is a graduate of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in the field of Psychology as well as a graduate of National Louis University where he earned his master’s degree in the field of Educational Leadership. Mr. Gresham is also a husband, a deacon in his church, a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity Incorporated and a diehard Jacksonville Jaguar fan.

Lead Educational Coordinator II - Brooklyn Morrow

Brooklyn Morrow was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is a graduate of Central State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Education: Secondary Mathematics. Last year she worked at Pivot Fort Myers, and is now pleases to work at the Tampa location. Brooklyn is currently working on her Master’s degree in Education Administration and Supervision.

Educational Coordinator I - Shirley Baksh

Mrs. Baksh grew up in the Caribbean (Trinidad) and earned her B.A. and M.A. (English) at the University of the West Indies in St. Augustine. She migrated to this country fifteen years ago and earned her M.A. in Special Education at the University of South Florida. She treasures the opportunity to work with students and think it’s a privilege to be an Education Coordinator (High School English) at Pivot Charter School where students enjoy such a unique experience of the best of both worlds. She’s an avid reader and enjoys writers who leave her with their thought provoking philosophies. “Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens.” Gibran

Educational Coordinator I - Kathrine Rodriguez

Katherine Rodriguez is an Education Coordinator, Language Arts Specialist, and ESOL Chairperson at Pivot Charter School Tampa. She received her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction for English Education from the University of South Florida in 2012. Prior to that, she earned her B.S. in English Education also from the University of South Florida. Before joining Pivot in October 2011, Ms. Rodriguez worked as a Reading teacher with the School District of Hillsborough County for 2 years. As a military brat, Ms. Rodriguez is fortunate enough to have called many different states—and countries—home. With her strong commitment to student excellence and academic achievement, Ms. Rodriguez enjoys working with the Pivot program to ensure that all students receive the individualized education they deserve. “When they give you lined paper, write the other way.” Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451.

Educational Coordinator I - Richard Reeves

Mr. Reeves was raised in Connecticut, and graduated from The Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. After working in careers that include engineering, field service, technical sales, and corporate training, Mr. Reeves finally pursued his lifelong interest in teaching nine years ago – and hasn’t looked back since. He feels there is no better feeling of accomplishment and purpose in life than providing young adults with the tools they need to have the future they deserve. Helping people understand “how things work” in the world around us is a passion for Mr. Reeves. Other interests include music, boating, biking, hiking, local professional sports, and even cooking! He is very proud of his two daughters attending college, and hopes all of his students will do the same.

Educational Coordinator I - Gary Stein

Gary Stein is a graduate from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in Management. He then attended the University of Phoenix where he earned his Master of Science in Computer Information Systems. In 1992, Gary joined the School District of Hillsborough County teaching Middle School Students identified as Severely Emotionally Disturbed. During his tenure with the county, he became a Technology Specialist, which was the catalyst that launched him into a successful carrier in the Information Technology field. However, Gary has never allowed his passion for education to wane. In 2007, he became the Program Specialist over the IT, Business, and Health Administration departments for a local college. Gary joined Pivot Charter Schools in 2012, and is now an Education Coordinator for the 2013-2014 school year.

Educational Coordinator I - Monica Robinson

Hola! Monica Robinson is a proud staff member at Pivot Charter School. She is your 8th grade teacher, but works with the entire school assisting with Spanish and social sciences. This is her second year at Pivot and is thrilled to be starting the new year with new and returning students. She lives in Brandon with her husband and two German Shepherd dogs. She is delighted to announce that she is officially two years from completing her PhD in Industrial Organizational Psychology, alumni of University of South Florida, GO BULLS! She is looking forward to an amazing 2013-2014 school year!

Educational Coordinator I - Diane Levy

Dr. Diane Levy has been teaching for over 11 years. She has a doctorate and a specialist degree in Instructional Leadership from Argosy University. Furthermore, she is a University of South Florida “Bulls” graduate where she received a Master of Arts in Reading Education and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Additionally, she is a National Board Certified Teacher in Literacy-Reading Language Arts.
