The daily announcements are a must, they must be shown to your Success students each day. There is critical information for students shared within them. The Social Emotional Learning initiative is one of them. Our S.E.L. team has created videos for students to see that are linked within these announcements. When accessing the announcements you will see a slide with the link to 5th grade and 6th grade S.E.L. videos. Once you click on the link, it will take you to the video presentations and you can follow the slides week by week.
Behavior Tip of the Week: Tardiness
Watch how this High School Senior and former gang member explains how one teacher giving him an important job in her classroom transformed his life. Shaping this student’s undesired behavior and replacing it with a desired behavior gave this senior a whole new perspective on life.
Have you ever had a student like this in your classroom? Was their tardiness attention seeking?
We all deal with student tardiness and the classroom disruption it causes on a daily basis. Consider the ideas explored in this video as you target the students with frequent tardy behavior in your classes.
The PRIM suggests numerous ideas on how to handle student tardiness. Here are some reference materials for this week.
PRIM Strategy 143 - Has unexcused tardiness
PRIM Strategy 212 - Does not come to an activity at the specified time
Link to suggested strategies for these behaviors can be found here ...

Open House - February 24th
On Wednesday, February 24, we will be hosting an open house and book fair for incoming 5th and 6th grade students. Our counselors have been advertising this since we returned from the break and we expect a great turn out. All teachers need to make plans now to attend this event.
In addition, each department and elective will need to have representation at a table in the gym on this day. It is scheduled to last from 4:30 - 6:00. Each group can work out a schedule to provide coverage so that teachers can also be with their teams. I want at least 2 people at every table. We do not need to provide handouts or make any copies. We can direct people to our websites or link them through QR Codes.
This is scheduled as College Day, but we will move this to another date. All teachers should wear their green OW Polo with dark pants, slacks or skirts.
SPED Notes
Sped Progress Reports for the 4th 6 weeks went out yesterday and are due back 2/17/16. Please get them done as quickly as possible.
It's ARD Season at Oakwood and it's important to remember that when the student is on your team, you have to have at least one representative present at the ARD. When invited to ARDs, please respond to the Google Calendar Notices so we can plan accordingly.
Counselor's Corner
We have moved the 5th grade going to 6th grade elective presentation to March 2. It will still take place during PE. Thank you for being flexible!
We are meeting with students starting next week to discuss the elective choices and process. We will distribute registration forms in Success Class when we hand out report cards - February 24 - same day as Welcome to Oakwood Open House and Book Fair! Busy day! Thank you for your help in this process.
