Parent Educator Inservice
At Vista Oaks, we set time aside each semester to learn and grow as teachers. But we recognize that the program offered here at Vista Oaks Charter School is not just a standard program. Here, it is our parent educators who deliver daily instruction to our students. We value all you do to ensure that each student reaches his or her potential. This will be our first training opportunity offered to our parent educators, as part of our ongoing commitment to support you in all you do.
April 1, 2016 9:30am Oak Room at Byron Learning Center
What does a complete language arts program look like?
Spelling, vocabulary, reading, writing, comprehension, grammar, handwriting—do we need all of it and how can it fit together?
Come for an opportunity to learn, to collaborate with other parent educators for support and encouragement, and for coffee and snacks!
MARK YOUR CALENDAR:
- Spring Break is March 14th-25th
- Byron onsite classes are cancelled April 18-29
Come support our students in this weekend's performance of The Emperor's New Clothes!

CAASPP CORNER!
This week in the CAASPP corner we're practicing our navigation skills (with a little friendly letter writing skills thrown in)!
Follow this link for fun practice with this skill: http://www.abcya.com/friendly_letter_maker.htm
Also, here's a link to the practice test! It'd be great for you to sit with your child and take the practice test together so you can both see what you can do to better prepare for it: http://www.caaspp.org/practice-and-training/index.html Log in as a guest (leave the boxes blank and click sign in) and choose a grade level to take the test.
STATE TESTING (CAASP) WILL OCCUR APRIL 18-29. THE SCHEDULE WILL COME LATER, BUT FOR NOW, KNOW THAT THERE WILL BE NO ONSITE CLASSES IN BYRON THOSE TWO WEEKS!
New Brochures Help Explain California Common Core State Standards
What kinds of things will my child learn in mathematics and English language arts in first grade? In high school? New brochures focused on the California Common Core State Standards for mathematics and English language arts/literacy (ELA) are now available.
w Mathematics
Ø Kindergarten through grade two
w ELA
Ø Kindergarten through grade two
The brochures on the mathematics standards showcase example problems, and the brochures on the ELA standards highlight the progression of learning through the grade levels. Each brochure also provides suggestions for parents/guardians to support their students’ learning and a list of additional resources.
Come support our student Liam Dewitt who is performing in the symphony!
YEARBOOK NEWS from CHARMAINE
You get a FREE 2 page layout in the yearbook, and it will only appear in YOUR yearbook. Please talk to Charmaine if you would like details on how to do this.
If you have pictures of your kids attending a school function, or playing at the school, or a picture with their teacher, feel free to email it to Charmaine for a possible entry into the yearbook. Sooner rather than later will give you a better chance of getting it into the book. Staff, we'd love to have any pictures that you've taken in class as well!
