Learning Labs

The Dot Project: Do you know what negative space is in art? Students are learning this concept as we begin our next Dot Project. Artist are painting around dots taped onto the art paper, when the background is complete they remove the dots and whats left Oila! Negative Space!

Our new mandala project is reinforcing the negative space concepts as students are learning to fill in the negative space of the mandalas with nature materials. This week we will sketch and design mandalas and continue building mandalas on the playscape both large and small using a variety of materials! So far we have enjoyed using stones and pinecones!

"Do you want to build a snowman?" Students enjoyed sensory experiences building snowmen out of playdough and pretend snow. We had snowmen from the very, very small to large snowmen! Students also pretended to fill buckets of fake snow and make snow muffins and cakes!

Jackson Pollock

Splat, Drip, Drop! Jackson Pollock was our inspiration today! We began some exploratory splatter paint art inspired by the great splatter paint artist Jackson Pollock himself! After reading about Jackson Pollock and looking at an art book of his masterpieces! It was a great way to spend our morning!

Mandala

Starting a new Reggio Project

Students have begun a mandala project. We started by tracing the mandala shape on a large mural paper. Then we used large stones and pinecones to create mandalas along the bike path. Next week we will extend the project by creating some in sand using nature items as well as mini mandalas!

Reminder of School Photographs with Jennifer Arp Photography

Many families signed up to have school photographs taken with Jennifer Arp Photography. School photo day is Monday January 25th, 2016. School photos will be taken throughout the morning. Please be advised that this will be a regular school day for students. You may dress your child in clothing for pictures but please keep in mind that the teaching team will not be changing students into or out of clothing for pictures as we will be involved in learning labs while Jennifer Arp is taking photos. If you are planning in dressing your child in a special shirt for photos please place a school shirt underneath if you feel that it is necessary. Again the teaching team will not be able to change students before or after photos as we will be dedicating our time to exploring with students in projects and learning labs.
