By: Jaidan and Ailey
Who?
Our immigrant group is the the Germans from Russia.
Where?
The Germans came from Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Some other Germans came from Russia.
The Germans from Russia settled in Central Kansas around Hays.
Why?
When the Germans came to Russia, Catherine The Great gave them religious freedom. About 100 years later, that changed, and the pacifists that did not believe in war had to partake in military services, and so they immigrated a second time to Kansas, and settled around Hays.
What?
The Germans found that the plains of Kansas were similar to those of Russia. They came to Kansas knowing how to grow winter red wheat. This wheat is planted fall, and is harvested in early summer. It gets moisture from snow.
When?
The immigrant group of the Germans from Russia came to Kansas in 1872
