May BUZZ
The Prince Charles School
Dear Families at Home,
April was a very busy month at The Prince Charles School! We had amazing opportunities for our students including Family Math activities, Road Racers, Running Club, Maker Club, Robotics Club, Dance Club, Junior Basketball, Spring Showcase and Marathon Club to name just a few. We are very fortunate to have so many opportunities available to our students. Heartfelt thanks go out to all of the staff and parent volunteers who make these activities and events happen for our children.
As always, our classrooms continue to be places to learn and grow. This month, students will be engaged in rich tasks in both literacy and numeracy as they consolidate their learning and work towards achieving their goals for Term 2. Our grade 3 and 6 students will continue to prepare for the EQAO Primary and Junior Assessments which will begin on May 23rd. Many of our classrooms have been using different forms of technology and small guided groups to provide students with focused instruction based on their learning needs.
Thank you to all of the families that attended our Spring Math Open Houses and had an opportunity to learn to play some of the games that students are using in their classrooms to consolidate and master number concepts and math facts. If you were unable to attend, explore the bag of math materials sent home with your child and ask them to show you how they learn mathematical concepts through these games. The math packages were funded by a Queen's Family Engagement Project. The materials in the Family Math bags will be used this month for the Math Mondays Challenge. Watch Twitter and Remind for the weekly math challenges going out on Mondays to families via Social Media. Tweet photos to @TPCS_LDSB , share them to the Council Facebook Page or send your photos to the School or Classroom Remind App each week and your child will be entered into a draw for a variety of games and activities. Monday May Math Mania has descended on TPCS.
School Council is very excited about its upcoming Spring Fun Fair fundraiser. Please save the date for this event. It is going to be held on Friday, June 15th from approximately 3:30 to 7 pm. Bracelets for this event will be sold for $20 which will include a meal and unlimited games and activities throughout the evening. Individual tickets for food and games will also be sold. This is always a popular event for families. We encourage families to bring their friends along. This is a great opportunity to spend an evening with friends and fundraise for our school. All of the money raised from this event will support special activities in the school, as well as improvements to our school yard.
Please remember to follow us on Twitter @TPCS_LDSB and visit our school website at: http://theprincecharles.limestone.on.ca/ You will be able to access all of our newsletters, as well as our school calendar and so much more!
See you around the school!

Running at TPCS
We are very excited to have many students from TPCS who will be representing our school at the LCVI and NDSS road races in May. Students from Grade three to eight have had the opportunity to practise running at Running Club after school or on the Road Racer Team at 9:45 am daily. We have been overwhelmed by all of the interest and enthusiasm and look forward to our students competing in these two events. Good luck Stingers!
Many Kindergarten to Grade 6 students have also been running during Daily Physical Activity. We are going to host our own Mini Stinger Race in the back field on May 24th at 12:50 pm. Please consider attending and supporting your child as they participate in this event!
