District Elementary Math Program is a Top Performer in Independent Report

Eureka Remains Best In Latest EdReports Reviews

The independent nonprofit has just released more K-8 math reviews, bringing the total number of reviews to 24. Still none of the other math series on the market comes close to Eureka. Out of 70 possible points per grade, Eureka's elementary grades averaged 63.0 points. The next nearest competitor averaged just 38.3 points per grade. The findings show that Eureka Math remains the clear leader for its focus/coherence, rigor, and usability. "

So you know, ARRSD is in our second year of using the Eureka math program. Teachers have actively participated in on-going professional development and coaching in order to successfully implement this rigorous and effective curriculum program and instructional approach.

Math Tips for Families

Let's face it math instruction has changed since many of us as adults were in grade school! Rather than expending energy debating or resisting the "new math" we ask that families learn with their children and encourage them along the way. "Let's look at this together." "This is different than how I learned so please show me what you know." Parents and guardians are children's first and primary teachers and can easily influence their attitudes about learning math. Be a positive influence and your child will become a more confident math student!

Linked below are two great math resource sites that include a wealth of information including vocabulary, practice tips, instructional videos, homework help by grade, topic, module and more. As a district we want to partner with families to help children to achieve in math.

Great Minds

Lafayette Parish School System

The Athol Community Elementary School (ACES) will be ready soon!

The NEW Athol Community Elementary School (ACES) is ON-SCHEDULE and UNDER-BUDGET and ready to open on the first day of school in just over six months! Members of the School Committee, the Building Committee, the Press, and Administration were able to take a tour of the building--under construction--recently. Here are some photographs of the building as it is being constructed, interspersed with some architects' drawings of what it will look like when completed. Later on, I hope to also post some video which I tried--only partially successfully--to record at the same time as I was taking these still photographs. Please enjoy the photos, and a huge THANK YOU to all those who have been involved with and who have supported the project. It will be an extraordinary facility and a fantastic resource for the children, families, and citizens! ---Mitch Grosky, ARRSD School Committee
