Superhero Central VBS
August 21-23 Wrapup
SUPERHEROES in the BIBLE! (and beyond...)
We just wrapped up our 3-day adventure with SUPERHEROES here at St. James Lutheran Church and School. It was a terrific time with lots of fun and activities with your 3, 4, and 5-year-old child(ren)! Thank you for entrusting them to our care as each one of them contributed to the loving, caring, and learning community. Thanks to our Early Childhood teachers, snack helpers, and almost a dozen of our St. James middle school students (and some alumni!) who were on hand each day to guide, assist, and lead our groups. We had 35 children on hand to join in the festivities! Keep reading to find out more about our week:
Bible Story time!
Bible stories and discussions were led each day by Mr. Gast outdoors in the courtyard. Skits and activities held the children's attention as our adventures about Jesus were introduced.
Gathering and Closing time!
Every day we started and ended together as a large group. We were introduced to a BIG WORD of the day, and we spent time praising God in song! Ask your child to share some of those with you. (Did you find the songbook in your child's Super Bag?)
A very SPECIAL VISITOR appeared on day 3!
We were all surprised and amazed when "POW!" a special visit from SPIDERMAN happened on our final day. He was greeted with wide eyes, stares, and hugs, too.
BE SURE TO WATCH FOR OUR 2018 PROGRAM
Gr 1-6 VBS (Vacation Bible School) will be held in June and our EC (Early Childhood) program will again be in August. Watch our website for more information, registration, and specific dates.

If you are having trouble learning some of the tunes in our VBS SuperHero Songbook that came home in your child's SuperHero bag, just "google" them, and you'll usually find a link to the tune! (See below)
I've Got the JOY, JOY, JOY, JOY Down in My Heart
Sing along and ask your child to teach you how we move!
I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy
OUR SUPERHERO WORDS of the WEEK:
HEART
Heroes are often a servant leader whose heart is open and filled with God's love. We heard about the young lowly shepherd boy, David, who was anointed (chosen by God) to become the King of Israel. He was also the great, great, great, great, great grandfather of Jesus. David was blessed to be the simple servant who, being filled with God's Spirit, accomplished amazing things.
WISDOM
We heard about how Jesus loved to spend time in the temple (the church--His "Father's" house) sharing His wisdom about His Father, while Mary and Joseph, his earthly parents, thought he was lost.
Knowledge + heart = wisdom
HOPE
Christians are twice blessed with JOY in living and HOPE for eternal life. We learned that while Jesus lived on earth, he taught of the many BLESSINGS we have and share with each other today.
Jesus Loves Me
Ask your child to tell you about Jesus. We discussed how Jesus is our best friend who is always with us everywhere we go. He loves us, cares for us, and forgives us when we make mistakes.
We often looked at the statue of Jesus in St. James' church. His arms were open wide to hug us and show us how much He loves us.
