St Bernadette's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 7 | 10 June 2022

Message from Geordie
Dear Parents,
I hope you have had a nice week and managed to stay warm and dry! It doesn’t look like the weather is going to improve any time soon!
In staffing news, I would like to formally congratulate Mrs Melanie Resuggan who has accepted a secondment as Principal up at Holy Rosary in Derby, starting in Term 3. Melanie has worked very hard with the students, staff, families and the parish here at St Bernie’s over the past year and a half as Assistant Principal. She will join Jesseca Francis, another of our staff members, who is currently in Derby as the Assistant Principal, and I know she will be an asset to the Holy Rosary community.
Our Masterplan is now in draft form, and we will be meeting with our Capital Consultant and Architect next week to go through the first draft. We will then hold workshops for students, staff and parents in Week 10 in the hope of getting some useful feedback and then presenting it to the School Advisory Council in early Term 3. This process is still running on time in the hope to make some decisions on projects for 2023 and beyond. At this stage the parent workshop will likely be on the evening of Tuesday the 28th of June (Week 10), however, more info will be provided once I have confirmation next week.
In sporting news, a huge thanks to Mrs Bowe and Mrs Watson who have organised for a new load of equipment for each of the classes to use at recess and lunch time. This has been needed for a while and we hope to see it out and in use in the next week or two!
Have a great weekend!
Geordie Thuijs
Principal

School Reports
Once again, Report time is near. As with last year, this will be sent electronically. To view your child’s report, please log into Seqta Engage. If you can not remember your log in or password, please email admin@stbernadettes.wa.edu.au and your log in details will be returned to you and which will need to be reset that day.
Once you have logged into Seqta, on the left-hand side (on a handheld device, you will need to select the blue button with three white lines in the top left hand corner) click Assessment, choose which child you would like to view (if you have more than one child on Engage). You will then see that you have access to all previous reports. Within the next week, could you please log on and ensure you can access last year’s report. If you are having issues, please email admin@stbernadettes.wa.edu.au before Friday 17th June (end of Week 8).
There should be no surprises with your student’s report grades as teacher and parent communication should be open and ongoing. If you have any concerns, please contact your child’s teacher via admin@stbernadettes.wa.edu.au.
Below is the visual to remind you what each grade represents and an attendance visual that demonstrates how important regular attendance has on learning.

Attendance
Here at St Bernadette’s, we are committed to supporting your child’s continuity of learning. While we recognise that there are some legitimate reasons for reduced attendance including illness, we are obliged to point out that reduced attendance can have a significant impact on your child’s learning.
In order to access the full curriculum and give your child the very best opportunity of learning success, CEWA and the Education Department recommend an attendance rate of 95% or above.
The below chart gives a breakdown of the amount of time missed in a year, and if maintained, how it impacts on the future education of your child.

Wooohoo! Our Sustainability is Program is gaining Momentum!

Interschool Soccer
Last Friday, the 3rd of June the Year 5/6 soccer team traveled to Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School to play a friendly soccer match.
When we arrived we were greeted by Star Of The Sea staff and students. We went to the pitch and got our boots and gear ready. While we went for a warm up run, the bell sounded for their lunch to end. The team went back to get ready to play a fun and safe game. Mr. Murtagh set us up in our positions on the field, the whistle blew and the game started. We scored 3 amazing goals in the first half and then in the second half they scored 3 goals.
With not much time until it was full time, Brayden on our team took the ball, dribbled all the way down the field, and took a shot and scored. Then the whistle went and we won. We shook the other team’s hands and we went on the bus and headed back to school.
It was a successful day for St. Bernadette’s!
