Register with the Selective Service System

Why do we need the Selective Service if there may never be a draft?

"Maintaining the Selective Service System and draft registration provides a hedge against unforeseen threats and a relatively low cost 'insurance policy' against our underestimating the maximum level of threat we expect our Armed Forces to face." -- President Clinton, 1994

What's the penalty for not registering?

If you do not register, you could be prosecuted and fined up to $250,000 and/or be put in jail for up to five years. Registration is also required to qualify for federal student financial aid, job training benefits, and more federal employment.

Do women have to register?

No. Women do not have to register with Selective Service. For women to be included in the registration requirement, or a future draft, Congress would have to change the law.

KC Tech Academy

Interested in earning college credits while working in a local manufacturing plant in order to earn a credential while in high school? Consider getting more info at the KC TECH Academy field trip for Liberty Academy students next Friday. This is a partnership with our local community college and local business, Magna. This has been a great experience for students who participated in the inaugural year.

There will be tours, time to talk to a Liberty student in the program, and a chance to get all your questions answered. If your student is interested in free college credits and real work experiences to help them gain a credential that would help them get a higher paying job, then this is worth checking out.

If your student is remotely interested, it doesn't hurt to attend the field trip. If any parents want to attend, you are welcome, too!

You can indicate interest (for your child and/or you, too) by emailing Mrs. Norris at melissa.norris@lps53.org. There will also be a sign up sheet outside Mrs. Streu's office.
