Columbus Arrives in the New World
1492 - Columbus Arrives in the New World and begins the Columbian exchange, leading to conquest, disease, and spread of ideas among natives.
The Fall of the Aztec
1521 - Hernán Cortés topples the Aztec empire.
The Fall of the Incas
1572 - Pizzaro topples the Inca Empire.
Jamestown
1607 - England makes a permanent settlement which would lead them to continually clash with natives as colonists pushed further inland.
King Philip's War
1675 - Considered the first "Indian War", native American King Philip led an army to attack colonists.
French and Indian War
1754 - A conflict between France and Great Britain, where the natives sided with the French. Their loss led them to have to give up land and raised colonists' desires for expansion.
American Revolution
1775 - Natives sided with the British, and loss land and gave the colonists freedom to expand as a result of their defeat.
Trail of Tears
1838 - Stayed by Andrew Jackson's Indian Removal Act, all natives east of the mississippi were forced onto reservations.
California Gold Rush
1848 - Promoted Americans to cross the Great Plains, and increased conflict with natives.
Transcontinental Railroad and Homestead Act
1860s - Further promoted westward expansion and seizure of native lands and the slaughter of buffalo.
Wounded Knee Massacre
1890 - Last Anglo-Indian battle. It was a surrender turned hostile leading to a massacre of native men, women, and children.
Dawes Act
1887-1934 - Allowed indians to gain citizenship through the selling get of land and weekend tribes in order to promote assimilation.
