Bear Valley Bugle
December 2022
There is "Snow" time like December!
We are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful state, I know many of our Bear Valley families enjoy activities in the snow. This recent delivery of snow has been both amazing and frustrating. The recent closures have thrown us off our normal routine, but seeing the students return this week was truly a joy. The district will be communicating how the missed school days will be made up in the second semester as soon as they finalize the plan, but please plan ahead for February 22 and 23 to become full days of school and not conference days. We will also have school on February 24.
Thank you for exercising caution in the parking lot as we have increased amounts of snow. Our exits can be narrower and leaving room for cars is helpful. I appreciate all our Bear Valley Families who are navigating this extra stress as the holidays approach.
Our Social Emotional Learning focus for the month is Coping Skills. Coping skills help us in times of stress. Coping can be defined as the efforts we make to manage situations we have appraised as potentially harmful or stressful. Those who cope best are those with a battery of coping strategies who are flexible in gearing their responses to a situation. See below for some different coping strategies to try. We are trying to tell our students that no one coping skills works for everyone, you need to find what works for you. On December 21 we will be sending home a handout and activity for each student regarding coping skills. Read more about the importance of coping skills in your family here: https://onefamily.ie/10-ways-to-develop-coping-skills-in-your-family/
As we head into Winter Break, we wish you all a joyous and safe holiday season. For whatever your plans may be, may you find time to relax and enjoy the break with family and friends. We will be excited to see you back on January 9, 2023.
