Did you know April is Alcohol Awareness Month?
In this time of Covid, it's good to remember that the ongoing #1 public health problem is Alcoholism. No one plans to become dependent on alcohol (or drugs for that matter). It usually just starts with social drinking, or as a "tool" to unwind and de-stress. So here's a challenge for you. If you find it hard (or impossible) to go just a weekend without consuming alcohol...there might be a problem.
TRY TO GO DRY
An important part of Alcohol Awareness Month is choosing an Alcohol-Free weekend during the month of April. The intent is for you to stop drinking from Friday through Monday, and then gauge the effect of the alcohol-free days.
If your body has become used to the continual presence of alcohol, suddenly stopping can cause physical effects, such as sweating, nausea, headaches and trouble sleeping.
If it was difficult to manage 72 hours without drinking, that struggle could signal a dependence on alcohol that should be more closely examined. If you are having trouble with your three-day alcohol-free test, you should talk with your Primary Care Physician about services to help you. Another first step could be reaching out to our Drug & Alcohol support person at CTE if you have any concerns or questions. Chris Chase cchase@ewsd.org
April Alumni Christina Bhandari class of 2016!

For the past 4+ years, I thought a lot about how CTE impacted my career. Everything that has helped me, from medical terminology lessons, college credit classes, community service days, learning about professional codes and ethics, and SkillsUSA, etc. Whenever I was complimented on my work ethic, I became more thankful toward CTE.
As soon as I started college, I missed being with my classmates and my teacher the most. The experience of being with a small group of people for a whole year, every day for 6 hours is something special. Joining the Health Informatics class allowed me to get a glimpse of what my potential career could look like. I’m forever grateful for the experience and for my CTE family.
