2) Newseum has a New Website for Students and Teachers
See NewseumED.org for primary sources, research help, lesson plans, and activities.
Notable Features:
· Free content meets needs of elementary, middle, high school teachers, college educators and lifelong learners
· 95 standards-aligned lessons and activities with 115 accompanying worksheets and handouts; they are easily searchable by type, topic and century
· 540 hi-res primary sources with explanatory text, and that cover U.S. history from 1776 to 2015
· 14 thematic units – curated collections of lesson plans tied to a Newseum visit
· All teacher resources can be downloaded individually for fast and easy distribution to students
· Opportunity to learn from other teachers through the EDCommunity
· Opportunities for teachers to submit class work for publication in an EDCollection
· The site will launch with two EDCollections. Formerly called learning modules, the EDCollections “Making a Change” and “Women, Their Rights and Nothing Less” explore how civil rights advocates and suffragists embraced the First Amendment to make their voices heard and enact change.
· Two EDCollections coming in March 2016: “Decision 2016” (focuses on the 2016 presidential election) and “Freedom in the Balance: Security, Diversity and the First Amendment” (will support teaching and learning about 9/11 and the fragile balancing throughout U.S. history of the five freedoms of the First Amendment with concerns for safety and the public good)
