The Weekly WrapUp
And that's the way it was....
Happy Friday Bulldogs!
"True greatness consists in being great in little things"
- Charles Simmons, American Editor and Writer
Mr. Simmons's quote captures the successes that MVHS has achieved this week. As you know, our focus this year is on building an inviting academic culture. To this end, we have achieved a 93.8% attendance rate for the month of September. As a point of comparison, MVHS had 70.9% for the 17-18 school year. With a 22.9% increase, this reinforces all of the hard work that everyone has been putting forth since we kicked off this year. Ideally, we are striving to achieve a 95% attendance rate for the entire year. Be sure to look for upcoming celebrations and acknowledgements for our students who are doing their best by being present every day, all day.
THANK YOU for caring about our kids, engaging them in school and preparing a safe place for them to learn day in and day out.
Wednesday saw 406 Junior Bulldogs take the PSAT exam - a first on our campus both in timing and volume. This test not only will help students evaluate their college readiness skills and help focus on future entrance exams, but has started important conversations in your classrooms and in our families homes about planning for life beyond MVHS.
THANK YOU for your flexibility, support and commitment to ensuring that our students have equal access to the tools that inform their future educational choices.
Saturday, Wednesday and Thursday evening saw our Bulldog staff reaching out to families and connecting with them regarding services and opportunities for all. Project Re-Runway, chaired by Nancy Watts, raised over $200 for charity and demonstrated amazing re-use of materials that would have otherwise ended up in the landfill. Wednesday evening, Veronica Gonzalez chaired the MVSD Migrant and Bilingual PAC meeting. This leadership group represents roughly 14.5% of our school district's families and is a tremendous communication, advocacy and agency support for our students. Thursday night offered families of MVHS Seniors the opportunity to learn more about financial aid (FASFA/WASFA) and meet with representatives from various colleges and universities. Over 60 families joined Paige Bird to learn more about their child's options beyond high school.
THANK YOU for offering these opportunities and helping to enrich the Mount Vernon High School experience.
