Middletown Township Public Schools

Trimester 3, 2017-2018

Welcome to Trimester 3!

Our Kinder friends are almost First Graders! Please read this newsletter for activities and resources to keep our friends engaged in place value activities and measurement through this last part of the year. Also included are some resources for you to check out and try for next year.

Which One Doesn't Belong?

Which One Doesn't Belong? activities not only engage, they also, effectively promote mathematical discourse among students. Children tend to be captivated by the images as they analyze and search for reasons why an image is different from the others. More importantly, the quietest students develop confidence and become motivated to share their mathematical reasoning. Check out this amazing resource here or visit the website. Remember there are no answers provided as there are many different, correct ways of choosing which one doesn't belong. Enjoy!

Dreambox Summer Learning Challenge!

This Summer's DreamBox Challenge is all about GROWTH! The school with the highest GROWTH percentage will be the winner of the District DreamBox Championship Belt. Just like READING, the hope is to avoid "The SUMMER SLIDE" and loss of important skills that were gained this year in kindergarten. Therefore, please encourage students to PERSEVERE through the tough lessons and GROW their brains this summer by participating in this beneficial activity.

The Value of Mistakes

When carefully chosen with purpose in mind, one student's error can become a learning opportunity for all. In the NCTM article, "Inspection Worthy Mistakes", readers will learn how and why to choose mistakes to benefit the learning of a larger audience rather than the individual student. Read on to learn how to make mistakes matter for all.
