FAFSA Night
CHS Counseling Connection
October is Financial Aid month!
Senior Parents-
I hope this newsletter finds you well. We have been very busy in the counseling center. I want to start by saying I could not be more proud of this group of seniors. They are a fantastic group! Columbus High School will host a FAFSA Night at the high school on November 10th. Also, BALFOUR will be on campus on October 19th for a presentation about ordering ANNOUNCEMENTS, CAP, and GOWNS. Seniors will attend during PIE.
What is the FAFSA?
The Free Application for Federal Student AID (FAFSA) is the application students must complete to be considered for Financial Aid. Financial Aid is money for college from grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study. Financial Aid comes from many sources- the federal and state government, the college, and outside organizations. The FAFSA is the key that unlocks all of these funding sources for your student.
During the first week of October, we helped seniors create their FSA ID usernames and password for the FAFSA application. Then, seniors filled out the FAFSA information up to the parent tab of the FAFSA. It is now time for the parent to take over.
1. A parent needs an FSA ID. Only 1 parent needs an FSA ID. Please go to www.studentaid.gov to create a username and password. You will need to verify your phone number and email. SAVE your FSA ID username and password. You will need it to sign your child's FAFSA application electronically.
2. You will need your 2021 tax information.
3. Now that the parent has their FSA ID and has gathered their 2021 tax information, the student will need to log in to their FAFSA application and take the parent to the parent tab so the parent can fill out their information to electronically sign the application The student will electronically sign the FAFSA application too. SUBMIT the application.
We look forward to seeing you at FAFSA Night! Experts will be on hand that evening to help you complete the application.
Sincerely,
Kathe Balusek
Counselor
