Gale-Bailey ROARing Updates
Rocking and Rolling to Infinity and Beyond
We are ROARing!!!
Dear Gale-Bailey Pride,
It is going to be okay. The pride is okay. We take care of our own!
Virtually learning is a great time for parents to observe what is going on in the classroom and how your scholar is learning. It is also a time to explain and teach students how to advocate for themselves. Family members should not have conversations with teachers during class time. You are always welcome to send an email or DoJo for any questions, but do not interrupt the class. Teachers may not get to students as quickly as you would like because they are working with a whole classroom. Thank you for your patience. We are partners.
Students should be in school daily and if you have not picked up material, please do so Monday- Friday 9:00- 3:30 pm.
Further, Gale-Bailey is a safe place. To keep it this way, please continue to have conversations about appropriate online class behavior.

Phase Two
Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) will begin Phase 2 on Monday, Nov. 9. In order for teachers to prepare for hybrid learning, instructional changes were made for the week starting Nov. 2. Outlined below are the changes and what they mean for CCPS students and virtual learning.
- Friday, Oct. 30: Last day for CCPS learning centers. This applies only to CCPS staff with children in a learning center.
- Monday, Nov. 2: All CCPS staff report to school and teachers work in their classrooms to prepare for student's return in a hybrid setting. No live instruction for students. Students will have an asynchronous day, meaning teachers will provide assignments for students to complete at home.
- Tuesday, Nov. 3: Primary Election Day - schools are closed for students and teachers. This is not a school day for students. Students do not have assigned work or virtual instruction. Students may choose to complete school work.
- Wednesday, Nov. 4: Regular asynchronous day. Students will complete assigned work at home.
- Thursday, Nov. 5 and Friday, Nov. 6: Students will participate in live virtual instruction through StudentVue and Zoom. Teachers will utilize new technology to prepare for hybrid learning
- Monday, Nov. 9: Phase 2 begins. Online learning schedules for virtual instruction will begin later than normal. A student’s first online meeting for Nov. 9 may be up to TWO hours later than normal. School principals and teachers will communicate this to students and parents. This change will allow schools extra time for in-person students to arrive and review safety protocols.
During Phase 2, the learning schedule for students will remain the same. Students, whether in-person at a school or virtually, will have classes on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesdays will remain asynchronous learning days for the entire 2020-21 school year.
The CCPS Reopening Plan outlines five phases of learning for students and teachers. CCPS provides all reopening updates to a dedicated page on the CCPS website at https://www.ccboe.com/index.php/road-to-reopening.

Extra Security for ZOOM
To ensure we can enter and keep our virtual classrooms open and secure with few disruptions, Zoom added additional online security through a single sign-on (SSO). SSO will help CCPS ensure the children attending our virtual classes are CCPS students enrolled in those classes. Teachers will be able to check student id numbers and verify names. If the names do match the students will not be admitted into the classroom.
Important Information and Resources to Get You Started
Virtual Learning Center at Lackey
To aid with virtual learning, a family internet center at Henry E. Lackey High School will open starting Wednesday, Sept. 2, to provide a space for students who need access to WiFi. The study hall-type space will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, in Lackey’s gym with desks socially distanced. Space is limited and must be reserved between 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. the day before you want to book a space by calling 301-934-7213. Families can schedule up to five consecutive days at once.
Parents/guardians will have to fill out a health screening for themselves and their children before going into the center.
Students using the space must sign in and wear a face-covering/mask when entering and leaving the gym, and to and from the restrooms. Students must log on and stay connected to their scheduled instruction. A limited number of desktop computers will be available. Students should not make disruptive sounds or behaviors and are asked to use headphones or earbuds.
Parents/guardians will park in designated areas and must remain with their child(ren) while at the school unless the student is 16 or older. Parents will sign in using a picture ID and wear a face-covering/mask when entering and leaving the gym, and to and from the restrooms. Other requirements include that the student arrives and leaves on time (no earlier than 7 a.m., no later than 7 p.m.), and that cell phones are silenced. Calls may take place outside of the gym. Parents are asked to ensure their child(ren) is not disruptive and should bring lunch, water, and snacks for their child. Adults can bring their own technology devices and use the CCPS BYOD WiFi. They should use headphones or earbuds while in the family internet center.
