Maier & Associates Charitable Foundation Scholarship
Scholarship of the Week:
Seniors…..please take some time to review the Scholarship Folder in The Bird’s Nest. I am adding new opportunities on a regular basis. The Scholarship of the Week is the Maier & Associates Charitable Foundation Scholarship. This is a $1,500 award. Sadly, no one from SVHS has applied. The deadline is this Friday, March 25, 2022. I know about this scholarship as Maier enlisted my services to write and develop this award many years ago. Anyone is eligible to win this scholarship, but as you can see, it is tailored to those who are not 4 points or the best athletes. Read the criteria below. I am expecting several Vikings to pursue this scholarship this week. I am expecting that some of you will be awarded the $1500!! Maier & Associates Charitable Foundation Scholarship
The Horizon Belongs To Everyone
There are scholarships for kids who are “top of the class.” There are scholarships for outstanding athletes. There are scholarships for achievers in particular subjects or extra-curricular activities.
But where are the scholarships for “kids in the middle?” What assistance is there for the kids for whom it doesn’t come easy? The kids who have to work a little bit harder … and do? The kids who aren’t eligible for many of the other scholarships … but who have still made a difference in the communities?
They’re right here. Each year, we award scholarships to a limited number of students from the area.
Our criteria are simple. We consider their grades, their goals for the future, and what they’ve done to make a positive impact in their community. Our goal is just as simple. To reward kids for trying their best … because that effort is essential in building the self-worth of our young people.

Michigan Tech’s Summer Youth Program Opportunity
Hello from Hemlock Semiconductor (HSC) and Michigan Technological University!
This summer, Michigan Tech’s Summer Youth Programs office is again partnering with HSC to offer scholarships for students from Midland, Gratiot, Bay, and Saginaw counties to attend an engineering summer camp - for free. The scholarship will cover all costs (including transportation) required to attend the Engineering Scholars Program (ESP) at Michigan Tech. A total of 30 students from these counties will be selected for the HSC award.
Preference will be given to current Juniors, however, all students currently in grades 9-11 are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is 5:00 p.m. April 10, 2022. An overview and all relevant paperwork are available under the “Engineering Scholars Program” on our website.
Engineering Scholars is a weeklong investigation of Engineering careers featuring special topic presentations, interactive group projects, and lab tours. During the course, you’ll get insider info from role models in working in engineering fields, be exposed to many different types of engineering, and get to learn from Michigan Tech faculty, staff, and #CrazySmart graduate students!
Hemlock Semiconductor believes that education is a great equalizer, allowing students from all backgrounds to become anything they choose to be. One of the ways they emphasize the value of education is through community partnerships to develop programs that engage students and ignite their interest in STEM. Michigan Tech is excited to be part of this effort.
Feel free to contact Michigan Tech’s Summer Youth Programs office with any questions, syp@mtu.edu - we are excited to see some of your students in the Engineering Scholars Program this summer!
Have a great weekend!
